JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, it's Jacob.
Every day we bring you the best videos around.
And today, we're focusing on dance crazes
from all around the world.
We've got the haka from New Zealand, the azonto from Ghana,
and Rio's signature dance.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
JACOB SOBOROFF: You all remember this.
The Harlem Shake began on February 2, 2013
when Filthy Frank uploaded this to his channel.
[MUSIC - BAAUER, "THE HARLEM SHAKE"]
It was immediately followed up by this video
from five teenagers in Australia,
officially kicking off the dance craze seen around the world.

At its height, more than 12,000 Harlem Shakes
were being uploaded every day.
You may even remember Harlem's first internet dance craze.
Webstar and Young B dropped the "Chicken Noodle Soup" song back
in 2006, and these signature moves caught fire.

People even incorporated the dance into their weddings.

Today, we're bringing you some of the biggest dance
crazes from around the world that you may not have heard of.
MILES: If you've ever seen the haka before,
it's probably because New Zealand's All Blacks rugby
team does it before every match.
But add a dose of middle school hormones, and it gets serious.
This is from a small school in Whitby, New Zealand.
It's 12 and 13-year-old kids performing
the most bad-*** version of the traditional Maori war dance
I've ever seen.
[STOMPING AND CHANTING]
MILES: The haka isn't just for war though.
They're also performed to honor distinguished guests like Kate
Middleton and Beyonce, who some would argue is the real queen.
[AZONTO MUSIC PLAYING]
JACOB SOBOROFF: This is the Azonto.
Hailing from Ghana, this dance is a mix of seductive moves
and miming that gained worldwide attention after videos
like this blew up.
[AZONTO MUSIC PLAYING]
The dance is simple enough that anybody can do it.
And improv is encouraged.
LINDSAY: This video, which was shot at a backyard
barbecue in Rio de Janeiro, started a dance trend
that quickly spread across the continent.
In the six years since that was posted,
Passinho has become one of Brazil's biggest exports.
It's the combo of traditional samba and bad-*** funk
moves that spawned major competitions and even
a full-length documentary.
[MUSIC - "CLIPE DO PASSINHO"]
These guys right here are known as the Dream Team,
because they were the best at last year's Passinho dance-off.
And also, I assume, because she's
got the greatest butt I've ever seen.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Ballet's a form of dance everybody's heard of,
but not many people know that much about.
CARLY: Jacob, my tiny dancer in my heart, you're in luck.
Because I was a ballerina for eight years,
and without sounding totally cliche, it's more than just
about dance.
It's a lifestyle.
JACOB SOBOROFF: That was a little cliche.
CARLY: Your face is cliche.
JACOB SOBOROFF: This behind-the-scenes docu-series
about the performers of the New York City Ballet
uses each episode to focus on different aspects of life
as a professional dancer.
-Men tend to have a shorter career
just because their dancing is more punishing for the body.
Because if you think about it, they're either jumping
or they've got a girl up over their head.
-Somebody asked me at the gala the other night,
why did you start dancing, and I said, well
I walked into a ballet studio and saw
the male-to-female ratio.
And it was like, sign me up.
CARLY: It's narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker and shows
what dancers' social lives are like.
-Due to the insular and demanding world of the ballet,
it can often be hard to form relationships outside
of the company.
-There is many an inter-office love affair at the New York
City Ballet.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Does it feel accurate?
CARLY: I think it perfectly depicts how hard a dancer has
to work to become a professional.
But I will say, I had to wear a lot more embarrassing
costumes-- with arm sleeves.
The trailer for season two was recently posted.
You can catch up on the whole first season
with the link in the description below.
JACOB SOBOROFF: In the history of YouTube Nation,
this K-Pop video has been submitted more
than any other video.
It's from Lim Chang Jung and features a great cameo
from U-KISS.
Check out these moves.
