I can tell you that I've made a lot of mistakes over the years. I've had some successes over
the years but one that really sticks out with me is a basic FedEx philosophy that we call
People, Service, Profit, or PSP. It's a philosophy our chairman came up with 40 plus years ago.
We're 40 years old this year. It basically says that if we take care of our people, our
employees, that they will take care of our customers, service the customers, and in turn
if we take good care of the customers, customers will take care of the profits. So it's really
all intertwined, people, service, profit. We've been through challenging times over
the years and we could have done different things on the people side and the human asset
side. I can tell you that I'm an absolute firm believer and I would say that most people
in our corporation are that people are the most valuable asset we've got and I would
say that it's true in military, it's true in large corporations, small corporations,
not for profit organizations. The philosophy works and I would say that the best lesson
learned would be take care of your people.
