HELLO EVERYONE, THIS IS EMILY FRANCES. WELCOME TO HOW TO MOM TV.
SO YOU’VE GONE THROUGH THE PROCESS OF GETTING PREGNANT, EITHER NATURALLY OR THROUGH ASSISTED
REPRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUES AND NOW YOU HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL BABY.
BUT IF YOU’RE TEARY, IRRITABLE AND FEEL LIKE YOU CAN’T ENJOY YOUR NEWBORN,
YOU ARE NOT ALONE. WE HEAR SO MUCH MORE ABOUT POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION,
BROOKE SHIELDS WROTE A BOOK ABOUT IT. ((VO CUTAWAYS OF REGENT -001B2143 -001B2150
)) HOWEVER, NEW YORK CITY PSYCHOLOGIST SHARON
SILVER REGENT, WHO SPECIALIZES IN COUPLES GOING THRU THE PROCESS OF HAVING CHILDREN,
SAYS THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN NORMAL BABY BLUES CAUSED BY HORMONE SHIFTS AND TRUE
POST PARDUM DEPRESSION. AND SHE ALSO SAYS THERE’S NO THE SHAME IN
SEEKING HELP. (PSYCHOLOGIST SHARON SILVER REGENT)
The thing I would say to women is pregnancy has a huge impact on the body and just experiencing
pregnancy teaches them that. So if you experience things its OK. It’s ok even if they’re
not OK things. That’s very different than the woman who feels hopeless helpless bad
mother cant do it right doesn’t sleep, doesn’t eat well. Then there’s the woman who has fantasies she’s hurting her
child when get to area of post partum psychosis, which isvery rare where woman becomes delusional
harmful to self or harmful to her child. When in doubt check it out. Theres no need to suffer
with feelings that are truly distressing to them. If you go to dentist to fill cavities
you should go to therapist for your feelings. its the same thing.
(HOST: Emily Frances, HowtoMomTV.com) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING HOW TO MOM
