>> Rep Lohmer thank you for joining us today. >> thank you.
>> can you describe your district and Alice in what ways you and your district are similar?
>> my district is 39 be which is the East Metro, the communities of Pine Springs and
Grant, Lake Elmo, Stillwater, Oak Park Heights, Bay port, they pound, West like land, Lake
St. Croix Beach, like land shores and St. Mary's point. 13 communities along the St.
Croix river it's a beautiful district. >> what is your occupation outside the Legislature?
>> For years I was a homemaker and home school mother of my four sons before that I was a
medical office administrator before it had my children my oldest son was born with a
disability so I needed to be home with him and I was fortunate enough to be about to
stay home with my kids and a sense they are grown now and I'm doing this I'm volunteering
in my community and work in my church. And focus a lot on my district.
>> what legislation that you work done in the past that you are most proud of?
>> last year I had the opportunity to help get that help keep $1 million in that HHS
budget for a program that I think is very important called the Minnesota adults and
teen challenge. When we were in the majority previously we had given them $1 million to
open a center in Rochester and and the current majority decided to take that money back and
so I met with the governor and had lots of members on both the DFL side and the Republican
side signed a letter to the governor to state how important this organization is and how
successful is treating people with addictions and the governor agreed and kept that money
and so I was very proud of that and part of the fact that I was able to help an organization
because they help a lot of people and give a lot of hope to folks.
>> why did you initially decide to run for office as a representative?
>> It was in 2008 I had been very involved in the party for many years always going to
caucuses and being a delegate in going to the conventions but in 2008 our second son
was serving in it 15 month deployment in Iraq and he's a captain in the Army and I remember
thinking a lot about how much he was willing to sacrifice because he loved our country
and I did a lot of complaining about the way things were going and I thought maybe it's
time for me to stop complaining and try to do something about it so I put my hat in the
rank and there were three people running for endorsement in 2008 and I won the endorsement
by lost that election. In 2010 I thought I'm not going to give up I will try again and
I won that election and I won in 2012 and here I am.
>> if given the chance who would like to be for a day, or who would you like to change
roles with? >> I think would be fun to be the president
for day to see what the day of the president looks like. The different meetings in different
dignitaries and different important things that they face every day that would be interesting
to get an insider's view of that not that I have any desire to be president but it would
be fun for a day. . .
