The fourth stop of the Freeride World Tour 2013 took place in the Kirkwood Mountain Resort
in California, USA, on Wednesday under warm and sunny skies with variable snow conditions.
There was a highly competitive field of 61 of the world's best skiers and snowboarders
eager to demonstrate their skills in front of an enthusiastic crowd - and of course the
judges.
American riders dominated on their home turf, winning in three of the four categories.
The USA's Lars Chickering-Ayers smoothly navigated a very rocky section at the top of the venue
and charged through an incredibly technical chute on the bottom looker's right side. He
maintained control throughout all of his run and was rewarded a winning score of 75.33
in the men's ski category.
In the women's event California local, and a crowd favourite, Jackie Paaso, skied a very
smart and controlled run, linking a number of airs through technical sections of the
venue. Her performance was rewarded with a score of 71.67, which was good enough to win
her the $5500 prize money on the day.
In the Snowboarding, wildcard Ryland Bell, also of California earned first place with
a score of 87.67.
With no apparent pressure on his shoulders, he unleashed several spins including a backside
360 at the top of his run, a frontside 360 in the middle and another backside 360 with
a grab towards the bottom of the venue. Not bad for a wildcard entry!
Current women's snowboard tour leader Margot Rozies from France, grabbed the victory here
with an incredibly fast and fluid run.
She linked smooth and technical turns together the entire length of the venue. The judges
gave her a solid score of 64.00, which was good enough for first place.
The next stop on the Freeride World Tour is Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal in Austria on March
9th.
