Hi, this is Jeff Krueger, director of nutrition and wellness education for Slimgenics
and i'm here again at the whole food market Tamarac
to continue our series on getting the most out of your grocery shopping.
Two other good proteins we should talk about are eggs and tofu.
Eggs come in all shapes, sizes and colors,
but like all animal proteins
the nutrition difference comes from chosing organic, vs conventional,
and not whether they're brown or white,
or big or small.
Organic always has more micronutrients,
and for eggs that means
more essential fats. It's a myth
that the entire protein content of an egg lives just in the egg white.
In fact some of the proteins in the yolk.
along with key nutrients an essential fats which are
key for weight loss.
If you want to achieve the best weight loss
it's way better to eat the whole egg rather than
just the egg white.
Tofu is also a good protein and here's another myth buster for you,
tofu actually has more protein than many of the other proteins, in fact
there are up to twenty five grams in half a cup of extra firm tofu
compared to six grams of protein in a egg.
So feel free to mix up your proteins since they're all different.
The softer the tofu,
the more waters in in it, and the less protein,
which is why do we use extra or super firm tofu
whenever possible
because it's got less water, and more protein.
If you're like me
you probably didn't grow up with tofu in your diet.
The first time i have it was when a friend sliced it up and pan seared it with salt, pepper, and
some savory spices for a quick appetizer.
It's still one of my
quick fixes for when I get home
and I'm starving.
i hope you can use this information the next time you're shopping fro proteins
and making delicious meals in your home.
This has been Jeff Krueger with Slimgenics coming to you from the
beautiful Tamarac Whole Foods Market.
