This is Anna from Ra'anana.
Anna is dreaming about a country life
Detached house with a private garden
Anna, did you know that from the beginning of the jewish settlement until today
There were more than a 1000 settlements established.
Even today, at the year 2013
There are dozens of plans to establish new settlements.
So, what's the problem with that?
What do we need in order to establish a new settlement
Territory
Electricity
Water
We need to pave a road
We need to pave a road in order to reach the settlement
More settlements more roads
More roads more vehicles
More vehicles
More pollution
Really, and who is paying for all this?
Good question
A decent share of the money comes from the state's pocket
Meaning, from the tax payer's pocket
Actually, for each resident who choose to live in a new settlement
We'll pay double
We'll pay double at least
And that's without considering the environmental cost.
But... country life means open space and it's good for the children
Anna, try to imagine a few years from now
When you will have children
When you will have children and they will also have children
And so on.
What will we have left from all those open spaces
So what can we do differently?
For future generations
There are a number of things we can do!
For future generations
It's preferable to strengthen existing settlements
For example, by high-rise construction
Investing more in public transportation
And in bicycles
Less polluting and more economic.
Nurturing and preserving open spaces
Nurturing and preserving open spaces inside the city (as well as outside)
In short: connection instead of suburbanization
Connection - to existing settlement instead of suburbanization - and new settlements
OK, that was just in a nutshell

40 years ago, I could say: we are as gods, we might as well get good at it. What I'm saying now is: we are as gods and have to get good at it.
