Hello...and welcome to what we have affectionately decided to name "THE RANT". Each week you'll
hear about topics ranging from personal likes and dislikes, politics, world events to everything
in between. Some will be funny and some...not so much.
Lucille Ball once said that "I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things
I haven't done.". I'm going to follow that advice today and get something off my chest
that has been a small annoyance for many years. That annoyance was re-fueled by the second
(more recent) example that I encountered not too long ago.
So....Let me first start off by saying that the two people I'm going to speak about I
really like and respect a lot. Okay...now that the disclaimer is done, let's get down
to it. The first is a song that Bruce Springsteen
released back in 1985 from the Born In The USA album, a song called "I'm on fire"...Listen
to the first few lines of it.
Now maybe it's just me, but does that sound like the national anthem of a ***???
I mean really "Hey little girl is your daddy home?"...How old is this girl...or it could
be that he means 'daddy' as in sugar-daddy. I've just never been sure about it. What really
bugs me is that I actually like the song...so what does that say about me...well I guess
it says that I think he is talkin' about a sugar daddy...cause the other alternative
just doesn't work for me. Ahhhhh...I'm feeling better already getting that off my chest.
This is quite therapeutic.
Now...on to my second example...This one stars Morgan Freeman in a movie called The Magic
of Belle Isle. Freeman plays the role of a novelist confined to a wheel chair who goes
to small town near Belle Isle to try and recapture his desire to write again. He meets Virginia
Madsen (who is a very attractive woman, in my opinion) playing the role of a mother of
three girls going through a divorce. To make a long story short, Freeman's character is
very crotchety and is finally befriended by the middle child of Madsen, one thing leads
to another and before you know it, Freeman is having fantasies about the mother, who
in turn also fantasizes until the moment when they finally have their one kiss.
Now I try not to be judgmental of others and like to live a "to each their own" way of
life, but I just thought the two character's age difference was a bit strange, not to mention
that Freeman isn't exactly in the same category as a Shemar Moore. But I love Freeman in every
role I've seen him do, so I let that pass. In both these examples I was left feeling
just a bit........."Creepy". Obviously there are many more examples of
this, but these are the two that make me say hmmm.
And that's my Rant for this week. Please, if you have any comments or suggestions, feel
