Today marks the commencement of the Chula Vista Municipal Solar Project phase 2. This
is a project that's been in the making for over 2 years. So today is a good day for the
city of Chula Vista because it moves it much closer to its goals of being 100% sustainable which is important
for climate change.
Right now we're just planning to do a crane pick, getting all the racking material, getting the balance of the system on the roof for Sunlink.
Which involves racking, pavers, we have paver pans. We just got done loading the civic center and 3 roofs and total 50kW and now the guys are heading out over to Public Works.
The city of Chula Vista is the second largest city in the county of San Diego and is one of the largest cities in the state of California.
They are considered a progressive city in that they understand the importance of addressing climate change issues and reducing their carbon footprint
and that is the primary motivator for why the city of Chula Vista has gone solar not only that, the financial benefits of going solar are substantial
they'll save hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to come as a result of this investment today
So while they are committed to being sustainable it has to make sense financially. That's where solar technology is today, is that it not only make the world a better place, but it makes sense financially.
Employees are working here so you have to be careful on what your surroundings are, if you're doing a pick and you have to get stuff up to the roof you have to make sure everything is buried off
and people can't access the zones where something could be dropped on them
This is the Loma Verde recreation and pool center, we're doing the second phase of the solar for this facility
So while this project is a landmark project for the city of Chula Vista, it's their second solar project, this does not mark the end of their commitment to sustainability
they still have dozens and dozens of facilities that they can go solar with the costs coming down and recent years, and electricity costs increasing
it's very likely in the years to come that the city of Chula Vista among others, will invest heavily in solar technology.
