[R. Licht] We looked at some of the other
videos that were on the web site, and we realized that a lot of them were slide shows. We
decided to go into a different direction, and do a more music video. We dabbled with the idea of
a song, but we found that I'm sort of tone deaf, so that wasn't going to work. So I just
decided to do a rap instead. I spent a Wednesday night sitting down at my computer and
just thinking of different words that related back to IU and IUPUI.
[M. White] I collaborated with the lyrics with
Robin. I also helped her set up the shots and pick out the costumes.
[E. Osburn] I walked into the Comm Tech lab and they had just been to the Halloween store.
So they had all these clothes and the Halloween, party grill, which we didn't use actually
'cause, ya know, I got nine years of braces, and I'm not going to screw it up.
[R. Licht] The characters names are R. Liddy - that's me. That's my rap name for Robin Licht.
And Orik, which is Erik Osburn in rap form. It was kind of taking fun at the different '90s
characters. Kind of the baggy pants, the jumpsuit, the definite reminiscent Flavor Flav
clock and the Viking hat, which, I think, made the whole video.
[M. White] I wanted something that was totally
opposite of Erik's personality, and plus, he was not there to say no. There's nothing
funnier than a skinny, white guy who is very conservative, ya know, channeling his urban roots.
[R. Licht] There was no choreographed dancing. It was Erik bopping to the music, and me kinda
waving my hands around trying to get it in rhythm. It took us three days to complete it.
[M. White] One of the things that Robin and
I collaborated on was the color correction where it was gray, and the only thing that came out
was her red jumpsuit.[D. White] It was a ton of fun trying to do it
and then seeing the final product. After people viewed the video, they didn't
necessarily recognize who I was. They would watch the video and say, "Oh, was that you on
there? I had no idea.
"After I took off my glasses, I became like
a totally different person with a totally different persona. It was kind of fun to live
that extra life for a while.[M. White] It pretty much rocked when we
edited it, and we put it up there.[E. Osburn] All of our elements were winning
quality. We had good idea, good talent, thank to IUPUI's Office of Communications and
Marketing, we had top quality equipment. I mean, why wouldn't we win?
[R. Licht] IUPUI is our home. I really wanted to emphasize the idea that IUPUI is where we are.
[M. White] Before entering this contest I had
some pride, but after editing and doing all of it and winning, my pride is really up there for IUPUI
