A straight stitch throat plate is an optional accessory for this machine. Do you notice
that instead of a big wide opening for zig-zag width, you have a single hole. This is going
to be great when you are sewing on light-weight fabrics that you don't want to have, kind
of, pushed into that opening. Or even when you are trying to perfect that 1/4" seam,
I love having this on. And even if you are doing a scant 1/4" and you have moved your
needle just one little hash mark to the right side, you still will clear that hole and not
break your needle when you stitch.
Now this little picture in the back reminds you that you don't have your regular throat
plate on and you shouldn't pick a zig zag or decorative stitch or move your needle position.
But we can seem to still do that and from time to time you'll forget and break that
needle. So, usually I pull this off as soon as I am done using it so I don't forget and
start tomorrow with a different stitch. But it really will help with the accuracy of also
free motion quilting. Free motion quilting you are doing a lot of forward-back, side-to-side
and that will actually help keep that needle stabilized.
