In this video we will demonstrate how to manually download and install Windows updates for Windows 8.
In the past we would just search for Windows Update.
However if we open the apps search box with the Windows and Q keys,
type Windows update in the box, we get no match.
What we need to do is click on Settings to get a match.
Now click on Windows Update and the Metro version appears.
Click on Check for updates now
and we're told that there are no important updates.
We'll close this window and switch to the desktop side by pressing the Windows and D keys.
Suppose we'd like to view the legacy Update window instead.
Press the Windows and I keys
and click on Control Panel.
Scroll down and click on Windows Update.
Here we have the legacy Update window. Notice that there actually is one important update available that the Metro side didn't tell us about.
We can check this box,
and click on Install.
For now we'll just cancel this.
We could also look at these are optional updates
and install them if we want to.
Now you know how to open Windows Update and manually download and install updates for Windows 8.
