Pomegranates are the jewels of fall but so many people do not get to enjoy them because
their treasure is locked inside and hard to uncover. October and November
is when the cash crop arrives in bulk. Buy several of these beautiful fruit to
complement an arrangement, use some to display open and others to remove the seeds and have
scattered about the table in small bowls. They resemble rubies
and have a deliciously delicate flavor. To remove the seeds, cut the
pomegranate in half, submerge the fruit in water in a large bowl. Dig into the fruit
with your fingers releasing the seeds from the white membranes inside. Once you
have finished, the seeds will sink to the bottom allowing the membranes to
float to the top. Skim off membranes, strain the seeds and serve in a beautiful bowl.
