You know when children start asking...
...if Santa Claus is real, if the Easter Bunny is real,
if they're really coming, if they'll bring you presents?
That's what we're talking about in today's video.
CHILD'S TALK Daniella Freixo de Faria
Hello, my name is Daniella F. de Faria.
Today we're answering some questions...
...about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny,
the Tooth Fairy...
When children start asking about them,
you usually don't know what to say.
It's important to know how those stories work,
what they are for and what goes on in the children's minds.
That world, with Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny,
is very rich and important.
Through all those stories, children get in touch with good values...
...and good principles.
They get in touch with the notions of faith, wisdom,
giving, devotion, gratitude,
with the joy of a surprise,
with the joy of asking for something and receiving it.
All of that is very beautiful and joyful.
When the child lives through that stage of life...
...in a rich way, in harmony,
they tend to grow up to be adults who have faith in themselves,
who are more optimistic and tenacious,
someone who has faith in life.
Someone who believes everything is possible,
that there's something to believe in,
be it in themselves, in others, in relationships,
in a happy life.
But when logical thinking starts to develop,
at around 7, 8, 9 years old,
depending on how was their contact with Santa, the Easter Bunny and all that,
children start asking questions.
And we don't know what to do.
Well, there's a smoother path to follow,
which is asking the child what they think.
"Mom, do you think the Easter Bunny is real?" "Honey, what do you think?"
Then you'll see what's on their mind,
and that's when you know if they're ready to hear the truth.
It's never good to lie to our children,
not even about that matter.
But it's important that we either tell the truth,
with much love and respect toward that stage we've all been through,
or, in case you feel the child isn't ready yet,
we wait a little longer.
"I don't know. Let's think about it later."
"Let's wait a while, let's see what happens and we'll see what to make of it together."
What's important is that, when the child is ready,
we say the truth.
And then there's the matter of the younger siblings.
It's all over now! The older one will tell the younger ones!
The older brother should be able to understand it...
...and see the importance of it,
of how great it was to have Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Fairy for all those years,
and that he younger brother will also go through that.
The point is,
when us, adults, talk to children about a topic like that,
we have to start somewhere.
There are two paths we can choose:
The first one is: I've been fooling my son for a long time now.
He doesn't know that Santa is actually our neighbor.
Or, my son got to experience a beautiful thing,
a very beautiful stage of life,
which leaves a very positive mark in our hearts.
If we, adults, are still able to be amazed at those stories,
at the magic they bring to our lives,
even if through children,
then the child will receive the truth...
...as another caring attitude,
so that the child will be able to grow up to be happy,
so that they'll have a happy childhood,
so that the magic that can bring some shine to everyone's lives.
The path we choose plays a big role when we're having the talk.
When the child is ready,
you'll be able to see it and just tell the truth...
...and say that Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy each represents something.
They're important symbols of faith, joy,
fun, birth, rebirth, acknowledgement,
That's why those symbols last so long.
They've been through all of our lives.
Every time there's a moment like that,
we have the chance to relive that experience.
That said, let me tell you this is what it's like to me:
Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Fairy don't have to go away.
They don't need to end.
They go from a great symbology...
...to a moment that can last forever and that can bring the same joy again.
After all, our inner child is still here.
It hasn't grown up at all, it's small and it's experiencing it with us.
Today's tip, for us to stay close to our children,
is to go to the movies!
I'd like to recommend a movie called Rise of the Guardians.
It's about what I was talking about.
It's very beautiful because it plays with the existence of the fairy tales.
It has Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Snow Man and the Fairy.
They only exist if children believe them.
Sometimes they doubt them, too,
and they have many adventures together.
We go by many names...
...and take many forms.
We bring wonder...
...and hope.
We bring joy and dreams.
We are the Sandman and the Tooth Fairy.
We are the Easter Bunny and Santa.
And our powers are greater...
...than you ever imagine.
Dreamworks - Rise of the Guardians.
It's a beautiful movie for those who are having that talk at home.
It's very cool for adults, too. You'll love it!
So that was today's video, about the beautiful world of childhood!
