One of the goals of Opening Weekend in general is to create a connection to the campus for new students. To create a sense of community and ownership of the university.
Who here is a freshman this year? Freshmen in the house. Let's hear it!
We ask our students, about 1,300 students, to shape themselves bodily in the shape of the interlocking UB.They get to watch themselves line up.
It's going to be a little bit hectic for a little bit but it's going to be a lot of fun. And this is the biggest group, I think, we've had yet.
Last year was my first year here so this was, like, the first thing you did with everyone and it was just cool.
Ok what I need is about 50 of the people with the white t-shirts closest to me right over here. Just stand up. Make a line right in front of me.
Blue t-shirts! I need you guys to go all the way over there.
The first thing we hear is "I want a free t-shirt."
The second thing is that they really just want to be a part of something so large and so unique.
This is a big school and this makes it feel smaller.
Think we're too low on blue shirts?
Take your bags and take your hats off and put them behind your feet.
Let's go live on that video feed and let's see what we're looking like out here. You guys look good.
Look up and smile at the helicopter!
I'm proud of my school - UB.
I want to thank everybody for coming out today. We're doing a great job. This looks awesome!
