both of our children were involved in the Invention Convention.
And they, you know, were brainstorming as a family different inventions that they could do. And
And when they came up with inventions, I think,
we just kind of brainstormed ideas with them, listened to what they had to say, gave them suggestions.
They’re very good about not just always taking just what we say. “No I don’t’ want to do that” or “I do want to do that”
and just kind of
throwing things out. They were just really good at throwing out different things into the mix.

provide the time, provide the assistance if they need it
and go with it, go with what they feel like doing,
even though it makes a mess, you know, or it’s really big and complicated.

like Legos and things that they built with and things they can be really creative with.

the invention was and what it did and how they made it and pictures.
on that they were involved with a lot of that They were involved with a lot of that process on making the board themselves.
They had a couple ideas before they probably settled on that one. Like “I want to do this” and realize that wasn’t going to work.
When they finally decided it just kind of,
“Oh!” As soon as you bought the materials, as soon as you got to the store and bought what you might need
it was like that night, “Oh let’s see if we can get it to go together.”
I think that was really the motivating part.
they had a specific. They had to fill out a log with
what steps they did on what days. There was a deadline, so I think when they started,
they knew they had the deadline and they knew they had to get things done. So
with both of them I think they did it within a short period of time so it wasn’t like hanging on
for a couple of months. So, they didn’t really start it right away, they were getting
the ideas and then once they sat down to do the presentation board and the project,
it was probably a two week turn around
Listen to your kids
Listen to what they need. Help
you know, not try to control what they’re doing but give them all the necessities they need. Any help on the computer or cutting
or researching, just-
Give them all the supplies they need.
- We just encourage them to be involved and do their best
and make it look like they really worked on it and not do anything
