>>Peter Tarach: We are here today to talk about the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS. The goal of
this project is to take a stock Sonic and build it into something better performing
in every aspect. Handling, Engine, Brakes, Tires, and Interior
to really create an excellent overall package.
The most prominent feature of this build that is going to make it stand out the most is
going to be the stance and us widening the fenders trying to fit bigger tires on there
and we are going to improve the aero a bit by adding a front spoiler that's gonna give
it a more aggressive look as well.
The 1.4L turbo engine produces a healthy amount of horsepower. Its got decent amount of down
low grunt. Up top it starts wheezing out a bit, which is normal for an engine, this size.
We'll look at adding a bigger turbo charger to help this car make a little more power
and improve the top end, which is really important to us when we are going to the racetrack.
The 6-Speed manual gearbox is a really nice unit in this car. It provides very crisp and
precise shifts and you can really row through it very quickly.
The brakes are decent but they are not gonna be any good for us on the race track, the
Brembo brakes will give us better bite, and fade resistant braking for a long time.
The steering on this car really impresses me, it's precise, quick, you point it in the
direction you wanna go and it just goes.
The car rolls a little bit too much so we will be looking at improving that with larger
sway bars, probably a coil over set up, and that will also help us with dampening.
The motorcycle inspired cluster in this car is a nice little touch however it's missing
something critical in my opinion, which is the temperature gauge. So we will be looking
at adding some extra gauges into this vehicle to help us monitor engine vitals during track
time and even during spirited runs on the road.
The Sonic RS comes with optional 17 inch tires that again provide decent grip but nothing
that's gonna be worthwhile for the racetrack so we are gonna look into improving that.
Getting larger 9 or maybe 9.5 inch wide rims with a decent tire on there, maybe an R compound
that will really help this car rotate and stick.
Since Modified is very performance oriented, the modifications we will be doing will focus
solely on that. We are gonna try to do some exterior stuff
to make it look pretty, but at the end of the day this is all about us making this car
perform the best it can.
I can't describe this build in 1 word but in two words, this build is fast and its legit.
