Although they are in prison,
they should still have some connection to society.
Today that thought was achieved
with the unveiling of carved posts outside the North Shore Court.
The special thing about the carved posts
is that they were carved by inmates.
The Minister for Courts, Georgina Te Heuheu,
unveiled the carvings today,
she says this is a great initiative that has come out of her support
for prison initiatives.
In the past, we had this idea that they were useless.
Now their work can be found within the community.
The carvings portray the highs and lows of life.
Adding to that, the carvers hope
that they will help steer people away from a life of crime.
