[start] Commentator: "With the vehicle up on the hoist,
the mechanic can perform the mechanical inspection of the steering, suspension, and exhaust
systems. Using a service light, the mechanic inspects the power steering rack for leakage,
wear, and boot condition. The outer tire rods are also
inspected, insuring tire rods are tight with no free play, and also the boot condition
is noted. All 4 suspension points are inspected under the
vehicle. The mechanic first looks for any indication of damage or wear. The shock absorbers
and struts are inspected looking for signs of damage
or leakage. The suspension bushings are inspected. The mechanic also inspects the ball joints
to ensure they are tight with no free play and the
boots are in good condition. Finally, the exhaust system is inspected. The mechanic
checks from front to back looking for signs of leak, and whether
or not it makes any unnecessary noises like bangs or rattles. A final inspection of the
tail pipe to see if there are any oil or coolant residue, and
the inspection is completed." [end]
