[Background speech]
I: Sakhi Walayat Shah, you migrated from Occupied Kashmir to Azad Kashmir
what was the reason for this migration, what forced you to migrate?
S: The Indian army there was committing atrocities on us Muslims
all us people there only had one slogan
we have been enslaved for the last 45 years
the Indian army would pick up anyone raising the independence slogan
they would arrest them and treat them with cruelty
there we were going to college
when we got near the college..
I: So what happened to you in particular? Why did you come?
S: We were going to college and when we got near the college
I raised the independence slogan
the cruel army that was there apprehended me
they asked why we wanted independence, I said it was our right
they took me away and threw acid on my face [stomach actually]
I tried to escape but they caught me and took me away
they beat me and committed atrocities on me
they would beat all Muslims, anyone who raised the independence slogan
all the women and old were not spared
[they said] if you ask for independence, we will kill you
