Chris: Hello, everyone! Chris from ExcaliburCCG.com along with my cohost, Randy. Today, we are
going to talk about the new comic books hitting shelves April 24th, 2013. Stay tuned!
Hey, guys! Thanks for pressing play! We really appreciate it. We are going to talk about
new comics that are hitting the shelves this week. Randy's got some stuff hes looking
forward to, I am looking forward to some stuff...its actually a huge week.
Randy: Big, big week Chris: Its a big week. There is a lot of
stuff, so we're gonna kind of go through the line, talk about some stuff that we are looking
forward to and stuff you should check out...so, Randy, lets start off with DC Comics. What
do you think people should be checking out this week?
Randy: Well, definitely Batman Incorporated #10. Still following along with the death
of Damian Wayne...people will definitely want to read that one. Wrath of the First Lantern
is going to be continuing on in Red Lanterns #19 and thats going to be another big one
this week, what else... Chris: Personally, I dig Talon. That hits
the shelves this week. I like the story line, I have enjoyed every issue of it so far. The
artists have changed up but its been...for me I have enjoyed it, I read it every time
it comes out which isnt the case for everything that comes out .
Chris: But Im also on board Batman Incorporated, too, because I want to see what else is going
to go on with Bruce Wayne and mourning the loss of Damian Wayne...Spoiler alert! If you
havent heard by now Damiens gone, but hes still alive in a very popular video
game... Randy: And speaking of that video game, Injustice
#4 is coming out this week, people are coming into the comic shop more and more wanting
that comic...it is a comic now, we are four issues into it we have some...they are coming
out with the second print, third print...I dont know how many prints of the ones and
twos there because its been so popular. Thats one to definitely check out for fans
of the video game, and what's our Before Watchmen thats going to be wrapping up here...?
Randy: There is a Before Watchmen. Its The Comedian #6...
Chris: and thats the end of that Comedian...Before Watchmen Comedian miniseries. Thats the
last issue of that. Randy: Right, and we are about to go into
the graphic novels for it so people are really excited about it Before Watchmen wrapping
up. Chris: Yeah, you know, honestly, I only read
a few of them. I kind of waited to get them all and just kind of sit down with the entire
series of Comedian and the entire series of Silk Specter and just read them all back to
back, but me, seriously, JG Jones, love him, man. I love his art.
Randy: Amanda Conner and Adam Hughes... Chris: Exactly. Yeah, so those are hitting
shelves this week from DC...some of the stuff that we will be getting, some of the stuff
you might want to checkout. Anything else from DC you want to mention?
Randy: Oh, no, lets move on. Chris: We just talked about DC stuff. Lets
talk about Image. Image is a huge week this week, so you start off with what people should
be checking out this week from Image. Randy: Well, I just got chance to read a little
early preview here. Jupiters Legacy #1, Mark Millar and Frank Quitely...think the
Justice Society of America, these golden age heroes having children that are more like
The Authority, not the best role models and they have a bit of a Watchmen mixture with
it, something that I was most impressed with. I think everybody will be coming in here,
its going to be awesome, it's going to be off the shelves pretty quickly .
Chris: And we've slightly over ordered, so theres going to be copies available for
you to check out. Mark Millar is hit or miss for me. Most of his stuff I enjoy, some of
it I really like, some if it is like ehh, you know, four out of ten, but this...Frank
Quitely was a huge selling point to me, just to see his serialized art work, hopefully,
on a semi monthly basis, fingers crossed, but yeah, I havent got to read it yet but
its supposed to be epic in scope with...I think I saw where Mark Miller called it like
his Star Wars his own, an homage of that type of epic story line.
Randy: No, it's definitely epic, I will give you that and this is probably the best thing
I have read from him since Wanted, so thats good for me.
Chris: Thats totally cool and I mean there as already been 150,000 preorders and it's
going to be huge. Randy: Massive.
Chris: That doesnt mean you will like it, but it's definitely something you should check
out, I mean, God, its worth it to me just for Frank Quitely.
Randy: Amen. Chris: So, also this week...what else we got,
we've got Five Weapons is a particular Image miniseries that I like from James Robinson,
Bomb Queen creator. I am digging this series. It's a five issue miniseries. Smart, fun,
funny...I am totally digging it. Randy: East to West #2 comes out, sold out,
flew off the shelves quickly, and thats one of those thats Jonathan Hickman, apocalyptic
western, fantastic and also along with that Jonathan Hickman's Manhattan Projects #11
coming out. One of the best series from Image Comics and another one we read is I think
when we gave the three best series from Image this one could have snuck in there as a fourth
one coming out this week, we're both reading it, it's Clone...
Chris: Jose Juan Ryp, David Schulner, it's action, mystery, political, intrigue, science
fiction, it is a little bit of it all and I love Jose Juan Ryp's art work. I check out
just about everything he does, to be honest with you. I tend to lean more towards art
than story a lot of times, but paired up with a good writer, its a killer combo.
Randy: He is definitely paired up with a good writer. Here is one to definitely to check
out. Chris: Yeah, so I am digging that, also back
to East of West, they are doing a 2nd printing of #1, so hopefully we will have that here
this week, but tomorrow Wednesday 24th so we are going to have, if you havent got
the first issue East of West, you can get the first issue 2nd printing and then hopefully
you can pick up number two, because it is flying off the shelves. I really think thats
it for Image. Anything else from you? Randy: No, lets move on.
Chris: Moving on to Marvel Comics, Randy and I have just talked about DC comics and this
weeks Image Comics out this week. Now we are heading onto Marvel Comics this week...what
do you want to start us off with? Randy: This is an Avengers week. Huge, huge
week. We have the main Avengers title that is giving us a new universe. Jonathan Hickman's
blowing me away on that title, the ones that I want to mention is Young Avengers #4 and
Avengers Arena #8. These two are two of my favorite Marvel Now titles coming out right
now. We are going to have both of them out this week, tomorrow, so yes. So, what other
Avengers are coming out? Chris: Well, New Avengers. Hickman is writing
that and that is leading up to a huge story line as well, I think both Avengers and New
Avengers are leading up to the Infinity story line thats coming in a few months, I think
this New Avengers #4 is actually starts part of the Black Swan story line which is whats
been going on with the New Avengers. Jonathan Hickman is writing both of those. I am totally
digging New Universe aspect of it all and the recreation or reinvention of these characters.
Randy: A lot of it he is tying it into his first storyarc with characters from that,
that works for me. Chris: I was not expecting that at all, because
these issues tie back to the first three issues, and major characters that where a part of
that, so, yeah. I'm totally digging Avengers Arena, at first it was like...when it first
started out, it was like five out of ten and I was this is new, I will give it a try,
but the past three issues at least, I've have been like, Ok? Where is the next issue?!,
I want to know more, I want to see what the heck's going on.
Randy: The origin or the updated origin of this new Arcade, wow. The fact that this guy
can be so ruthless now. He is no longer the joke there that as worked for me .
Chris: Last issue they really delved in to him, into what he is thinking, what he is
playing at, what life actually means for him, so that was interesting to see and it really
helped to reinforce...like it went hand in hand his new found power he as now, to me,
so I really enjoyed that so its a huge Avengers week. Avengers, New Avengers, Avengers
Arena... Randy: Uncanny Avengers...if your loving Thor
that Jason Aaron as been writing with the axe instead of his hammer, its all being
tied into the Uncanny Avengers right now. He is battling Apocalypse back centuries ago...
Chris: We are moving forward now to the Apocalypse Twins...
Randy: The twins, I want to say whose twins they are because its kind of a creepy weird
thing but there are Apocalypse Twins, it's not good for anybody.
Chris: I have enjoyed the Thor with the battle axe...
Randy: I think a whole lot of people have and that maybe one of the reasons behind why
we are seeing him again in the book. Chris: Yes, I can easily see that being the
case. Randy: And also, very important book out this
week from Marvel. We have Avengers In Space with Guardians of the Galaxy #2. Steve McNiven
on art, doing it beautiful, and first story was full of action. What more could you ask
for from Bendis but he gave you some action instead of sitting around talking all the
time. Chris: Exactly. Yeah, he has his moments.
Its nice to see the action. Randy: Well, youre in Space, you know everybody
is out to find Earth and take out Earth and everything, you dont want to see just talking
and that you want to see explosives you want explosions, you want to see space battles.
Chris Exactly and especially drawn by Stephen McNiven, love it, love it, love it. I cant
get enough of it. What else this week for us? Hey! You get to get a break from Age of
Ultron! There is no new Age of Ultron, no new AU, no any of that, so if youve been
picking up Age of Ultron, thats cool but if you was expecting it, it's not coming out
this week, why dont you try out one of our other suggestions if youre not getting
it already? So, thats just a little extra there.
Randy: And definitely go Guardians of the Galaxy. Thats going to be tying in as well
with the Infinity thats going to be coming. Chris: Yeah, thats a point to point out
you need to come on board some of these things because they are leading up to the big story
line for that. Randy: Yeah, people are going to be scurrying
to the shop to find those issues as it comes out, thats going to be hard to find if
youre not picking it up right now. Chris: Also, we have the Infinity story line
coming from Marvel this year. Also, later this year, we have the Trinity War story line
coming through DC Comics that will involve all three of the Justice Leagues, so these
are some issues...if you want to get on board now and know whats coming and you have a heads
up as to what it's going to be about and whats going on with those...so, enough of all that.
Any other Marvel stuff you want to...? Randy: No, we are good for Marvel.
Chris: So lets move on to something else Randy is going to talk about some additional
stuff that is not really necessarily from the big two or three, Marvel, DC, or Image,
but are still worth you checking out? Randy; Yes, definitely two really big Indie
comics. Firstly, Rachel Rising #16. Rachel Rising as just been announced as a TV series
and number one is sky rocketing right now in price so that is something that people
may want to check out its turning more from Strangers in Paradise it is a horror story
that he is telling right now. Also, Cullen Bunn, who is the sensation behind The sixth
Gun, also being made into a TV series and he his writing Fearless Defenders and also
something else from Marvel I am forgetting, but he is putting out his second issue of
Helheim. It's, you know, Zombies and Vikings, all sorts of good new stuff.
Chris: Who doesnt love that? Randy; I love it, so we have the first or
the second print of number one here that you can pick up and you can pick up number two
tomorrow. So, those are my real two big ones I am looking forward to that are Indie
Chris: Cool. Anything else? Randy: I think that about wraps it up.
