Hi, I'm David Fuller from Viadon. Our American-made VGT215 series is a great, all-around metal
finishing masking tape. Primarily used for powder coating due to it's intermittent heat
resistance to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, it also works well for anodizing and plating, but
it does help to understand how this tape is made and works to get the most from it.
First, what conditions does the tape experience before it gets to you? Unlike many of our
competitors who purchase tape overseas that sits in a hot container on a boat for 8 weeks,
our green polyester tape is received at Viadon within a few days of manufacture, ensuring
the best quality for you. ASK where your tape was made, or it may look like this.
Next, many tapes are "pressure sensitive adhesive" tapes, and green polyester tape is no exception.
That means you really should PUSH DOWN with firm pressure when applying it. The adhesive
will actually "flow" over the next 24 hours (called "wetting") to produce a stronger bond.
And the flatter the surface, the better the adhesion. This matters for anodizers who need
a clean masking line -- contact Viadon for more information about this.
And finally, ALWAYS apply to a clean and dry surface. Whether finishing thousands of parts
a day or powder coating one motorcycle or car part, the metal MUST be clean for the
tape to adhere properly. Oils from manufacturing or skin and dirt or dust decrease adhesion.
For best results, store tape rolls on end in a temperature and humidity controlled location,
and use all material within 12 months of purchase for best results.
Viadon slits tape to just about any width from 1/8 inch up to 54" for masking big areas.
For other tips on covering large surfaces for less money, making large quantities of
die cuts, short runs or prototype die cuts, or purchasing this material laminated on release
liner, contact Suzy, Stephanie or me here at Viadon. We'll help you find the right solution
for your specific needs. Viadon. A Cut Above.
