Hi! This is Heather Holmes.
This week I am going to focus on creating a stamp tutorial using Inkscape.
So, first I created a blue rectangle here with 8 red circles that go across the middle,
and what I am going to do is take those circles and make perforations so it looks like a stamp
template.
So, first step is go to the upper left hand corner of the screen
where it looks like there is an arrow button. That is actually "select".
I'm going to click on that and take my mouse down
to the red circles in the middle of the rectangle, and holding down SHIFT key I am going to click
each red circle
so I am selecting all at the same time.
Then I am going to go up to Path, click on Path
and select "union", which connects all of these
red circles together and allows me to move them.
I am going to move them up to the top line of the blue rectangle so that the line goes
through about the middle of those circles.
If I click on those circle, that "union", I get handles and these handles can make the circles bigger,
smaller, or wider.
I am going to draw them out a bit here so they are the same width as this rectangle.
I am going to click Ctrl+ C and click with the left mouse button,
and that will give me a copy. Ctrl + V to paste.
I am going to put the second row down here on the bottom of the rectangle.
Again, make sure it is even. Then, I am going to Ctrl + V, paste again.
So I can have circles that go around the outside edges of the
rectangle.
If I click on the circles one time, it gives me handles to make them bigger or smaller,
but if I click on them a second time, I have the ability to rotate these
circles, so I am going to rotate them so we can
put them on the other edges of the rectangle here
Once I have them how I want them,
I am going to click on them and draw them down.
As you can see, they are a little bit too big for this line.
So, I am going to click once to get those handles to make the circles smaller.
And as I adjust the size, I am going to put them on the left hand line.
Again, remembering to put the line through about the middle of the circle.
I can see they are still a little bit too big, so I am going to make them a little bit smaller here.
Make an adjustment. Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V
so I can get a copy and paste of that and bring that over to the other side.
So, now once I put those over on the right hand side, I have all the circles lined up.
What I am going to do through this next function, it will acutally make those circles cut out part of
the rectangle.
So, left-clicking on the rectangle, I am going to also left-click, holding SHIFT down,
on the top row of circles, and then go up to the Path tool
and click on Difference.
That cuts out those circles. I am now going to do the same thing for the left
right, and bottom.
Again, left-click, SHIFT,
click on both the rectangle and the circles,
going up to Path and selecting Difference.
And I have now cut out all the perforations and I am going to change this color to white so
you can see what it would look like.
And there you have it!
That's the template
for the back of the stamp.
Overall, this was a pretty good experience using Inkscape to make this template
In the beginning I struggled because I tried to
select all the elements I had there,
meaning the rectangle and all the circles,
and then click Path and Difference to subtract those circles
but it wouldn't let me do it. I finally figured out
after lots of trail and error
and looking online that you had to click one by
one.
So once I finally did that, I was able to finish up this project nicely.
I think this was a pretty good experience.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
