Peter Rabbit Flies a Kite
Once upon a time, there was a little bunny. His name was Peter rabbit. He was the fluffiest,
the hoppingest, and the furriest bunny. Sometimes Peter rabbit was also naughty.
One day the boys were in the playroom. Peter rabbit was in the kitchen. Someone had accidentally
left the back door open. Nobody noticed the door open just a bit. Except for Peter rabbit.
Peter squeezed his furry self out the back door. He hopped around on the patio for a
while. Then he saw Bella next door. Peter hopped to the fence to see her.
"Bella, what are you doing?" said Peter rabbit. It was a windy day. Bella was flying
her kite. Bella tried to tell Peter to go back home, but the kite string was in her
mouth.
Peter rabbit said, "Bella, I want to fly that kite!" He wriggled under the fence
to Bella's side. Peter grabbed onto the kite tail.
"No, Peter, let go! Go home!" barked Bella. But when she opened her mouth to tell Peter
No, she let go of the kite.
Peter rabbit's foot got tangled in the kite. The wind blew. Up, up, up went the kite! And
up, up, up went Peter!
The wind blew the kite over the trees. It blew over the fields and over the hills. Peter
was hanging from the kite upside down. "Oh, look how pretty!" said Peter, "But I am
very high!"
The wind blew the kite all the way to Daddy's school. The children were out for recess.
They saw a kite. One little boy saw a furry thing hanging on the tail. "What's that?"
he said.
A little girl said, "That's a rabbit!" The children ran to get Daddy, who was in
his office.
Daddy said, "Don't worry. I will get him down." So he used an electric plane to fly
up, up, up high in the sky. The plane caught the kite.
Down, down, down came the kite. And down came Peter. Daddy caught him. "Peter rabbit!
What are you doing here? I will take you home."
So Daddy put Peter rabbit in his office with carrots from Daddy's lunch. "Now, Peter.
I have to make sure the children are safely on the bus. You stay here until I am done."
Meanwhile, back at home, Mommy and the boys were looking for Peter everywhere. They even
looked outside. Bella was barking to tell them where Peter went, but she was speaking
dog language. "Bark, bark!" said Bella. She was trying to tell them, "Peter flew
away!" Just then they heard Daddy's car horn. "Beep,
beep! Beep, beep, beep!" (That means Daddy is home.) Mommy and the boys came outside
to tell Daddy they couldn't find Peter rabbit.
Daddy said, "Look who came to my school today, boys! And he was flying a kite, Or,
I should say, the kite was flying Peter!"
One by one they gave Peter a hug. "Peter! We were so worried!" said Mommy, and she
put Peter in the house, safe and sound.
Then Daddy and the boys gave Bella back her kite. "Woof, woof, woof!" said Bella.
That meant, "Thank you for my kite."
Inside, the boys said, "Naughty Peter rabbit! Don't ever fly Bella's kite again! You
are not a flying bunny. You are an inside bunny." And this time, Peter listened.
The End.
