Korby: I'm really passionate about music.
Writing it, playing it, performing it, touring around.
As a songwriter, all different kinds of things inspire you.
Sometimes, it's the girl you are currently into, or the last one who broke your heart.
I really love a great song, that's everything.
Singing: If I prove false to you, that would be...
Some of the biggest challenges to being an independent singer/songwriter are, well, just
the constant financial uncertainty.
I've always been healthy. It would take one trip to the emergency room to really derail
me financially I'm sure.
I have a friend in Seattle where I used to live, who's a lot more sensible than me.
She called me one day and said, 'We're going to go to the website, and we're going to get
you health insurance.'
As an artist, I don't make a lot of money.
And so I'm really surprised and grateful: my insurance has a $500 deductible.
I pay $17.34 a month.
Boom.
It's actually a peace of mind that I have, that I didn't know that I didn't have.
Singing: Gotta do what you gotta do...
Having health insurance means I can still continue to fish for the next song that's
going to mean something to me and other people, and that it's going to be okay if something
happens along the way.
It's a good feeling actually.
Singing: You gotta do what you got to do.
