WEST MOBILE, WE HAVE SOME
ANSWERS FOR YOU.
A DIFFERENT BUSINESS HAS TAKEN
OVER RECYCLING PICK-UP AND
SERVICE,
IT'S CALLED GREENIE IN A BOTTLE.
BUT, SOME BINS STILL REMAIN ON
CURBS IN
PARTS OF THE CITY. FOX TEN NEWS
REPORTER JOE
SAL-VA-TORE GOT SOME ANSWERS
FROM THE OWNER TODAY.
Newark Group's yellow lid
canisters dot the Ridgefield
subdivision in West Mobile.
That company provided free paper
recycling pick-up for residents
twice a month, but now
Greenie in a Bottle will resume
the free service one a month,
beginning December 3rd.
It's just more financially sound
for us to offer the program once
a month.
K.D. Johnson's company is not
new; it has provided
recycling at Bay Fest, for the
past three years. But, in
taking over paper pick-up from
Newark
Johnson's company is not new; it
has provided recycling at Bay
Fest, for the past three years.
But, in taking over paper
pick-up from Newark Group it hit
a snag.
Johnson That was a learning
curve, with the acquisition of
the new paper routes so you're
talking about 14 days just
getting use to the routes.
During the learning curve
Johnson says, equipment
broke down, causing more pick-up
problems. Customers tried
calling Newark only to discover
it
no longer provides paper
recycling pick-up. Greenie in a
Bottle's phone line directs
customers to the internet.
Johnson We just hadn't gotten
around to developing a more user
friendly method of communication
yet. Johnson says he is working
hard to reach
customers who may not have
computer access.
If you've been wondering why
your recyclable paper container
is still on the curb, Johnson
says they
plan to resume the free pick-up
soon. In this Ridgefield
community free pick-up's
start on the 12th. So what can
you do about all the accumulated
paper? You can take it to the
drop-off center on Government
Street.
Or, The city of Mobile has an
online map for paper recycling
drop boxes.
Be sure to check with the
business where the drop box is
supposed to be located. In
