My name is Alexei Mojarov. I am an Economic Affairs officer at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD, Commodities Division in particular, which is dealing with commodity trading, iron ore materials.
In this respect, I would like to say a few words about the role of CIS countries in international iron ore trade. Unfortunately, this trade has been relatively low compared to global volumes recently. It constitutes around 3% of iron ore world trade turnover.
Additionally, it must be emphasized that this trade is mainly developing, in small volumes, among CIS countries, like Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. Additionally, there is a tendency in increasing export volumes from Russia to Far East and, in particular, to China.
But our Russian exporters should be thankful for this trend to Chinese manufacturers and buyers of iron ore materials, who try to diversify and move away from more monopolistic suppliers from Australia and Brazil.
In terms of conference itself, I would like to stress that it is not the first time I participate in it. With every year, the conference is growing. Discussions and presentations are becoming more and more interesting and complex.
The only thing I wanted and had a chance to address is that, to my opinion, more focus should be brought to the consequences of Russia entering WTO in terms of interests that can be defended by our government and manufacturers as well. Also, it would be good to see government representatives, as they can share their opinions on that question.
Thank you.
