Hi I'm Paul Manning, I won a Gold Medal in Beijing 2008 in the Men's Team Pursuit.
I am now working it ISG, the contractors who are building the Olympic Velodrome for London
2012.
Winning that Gold Medal in Beijing was a brilliant experience and a perfect close to my cycling
carrier. Especially having won a Silver in Athens and a Bronze back in Sydney.
I've been a full time professional cyclist since I left University, so when the decision
came to retire from sport I was faced with the prospect of getting a proper job.
It's a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a contractor building the Velodrome for
the London Games. It's great to come along today and see the progress on site. Things
are going really well. Foundations are in, work on the room is going to progress in the
next few months. A big part of the work here s to ensure that the London Velodrome is going
to be the quickest venue in the world. Every competitor is going to want to win that Gold
Medal, they're all going to want to expect to break the world record in the process,
so no doubt that the Velodrome here is going to be super quick, but I do hope that my world
record in a team pursuit lasts until then.
Obviously British cycling is on a real high. The amazing performances by the British cyclists
in Beijing and the amazing performances of Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish in the
recent Tour de France.
We're going to have a fantastic London Olympics and win plenty of medals here in London on
the Velodrome. But beyond that we're going to attract a lot of interest, there is going
to be a lot of success on this Velodrome for future generations using this facility for
future Olympics. Plenty of participation from the community and the VeloPark cycle tracks,
BMX and mountain biking all on this one site.
