My name is Anna Moss and I have a bag line called Chiyome.
It's mostly canvas and leather, pretty minimal line
I want to keep it pretty gender neutral
but that's been sort of difficult because I have a lot more experience understanding
the perspective of one gender verses the other.
The thing about the line is that I want to keep it really clean
I want it to be very minimum. I want it. I want the pieces themselves to be
translatable
across many different kinds of distinct people who have their own aesthetic.
And I think the level of simplicity is refreshing because
I don't think that there are a lot of bags that
existing in this kind of minimal way
that aren't flashy. That just sort of want to help support the person
in their own aesthetic.
There's a
a lot of decoration going on and
I think what I've tried to do
and what a customer can find in the brand
is more of a simple and clean alternative.
I think that my community
is sort of an urban creative professional.
I design
as a way to
express what I'm thinking
also to make an intervention in the world that's beautiful. To
place these objects on people that I think fit seamlessly within
their wardrobe. Also kind of
make a good frame for their look
so
I think accessories are really exciting to design.
because
It's sort of
It's a way to clean up a look. It's also a way to sort of, take something to the next level in terms of
dressing it up or down for a night or a day.
Three words to describe myself
I would say that I'm engaged, and intentional
and
pretty calm most of the time
To me, the work that I make is not just about
making a few handbags that are elegant and out there in the world.
but I
I think of, you know, what kind of
citizen do I want to be? What sort of
not only creator, but facilitator I want to be.
The work I do
educational work and work for a couple different non-profits
over the years
has been
just as influential as the work I do in studio.
It's been exciting to create an identity as a designer
that's not just about objects but it's also about
engaging with the community to create real solutions.
And to me that's been an extremely fulfilling
endeavor.
