Welcome to the Docpods Podiatrists Review and today we'll be talking about a supinated
foot type and supination and how these present clinically.
A supinated foot type is usually described as one that has the rearfoot rolled out in
relation to the bisection of the lower third of the leg as you can see here.
In standing, the supinated foot type has the characteristic appearance that it is rolling
towards the outside and that the lateral or the outside portion of the foot is bearing
most of the weight.
Let's take a look at what a supinated foot type looks like in walking. At normal speed
it can be difficult to see any abnormal motions as they happen quite quickly.
However, when the video is slowed down it makes it easier to see the abnormal motions
in this foot.
As the foot strikes the ground it rolls out and stays rolled out for the entire contact
period of the gate cycle.
These motions are the motions that you would typically see with an inverted foot type clinically.
