Whether on campus or in the classroom, Samantha Lopez says the people at UK made her transfer
process a smooth one. Everyone that I met, all of my professors have been nice and helpful
and if ever or whenever I've had questions, people have you know helped me out. For fellow
transfer student Kyle Blagg, it was his UK 201 class that helped him feel at home right
from the start. Knowing that UK has a class just for transfer students to help us acclimate
to the environment, it makes me feel like I'm really important; UK actually cares about
my success. Mike Shanks hopes to build upon that welcoming spirit in his role as Director
of the new UK Transfer Center. There's support here for them and even more now with the Transfer
Center. To be able to get them early on in that process and help guide them to make that
transition as seamless as possible. A goal Shanks and members of the Transfer Center
team can accomplish more easily in the new space. We want to make a one-stop shop for
pre-advising for pre-transfer in the UK transfer center. We have five transfer enrollment coordinators
that are assigned various parts of the alphabet that will work to answer or to get the answer.
Answers he hopes will help even more potential transfer students seek out UK's unique opportunities.
With roughly 200 majors, the ability to do research, the ability to get involve with
many many different clubs and organizations, there's so much to choose from. Choices both
Kyle and Samantha are happy to have for their futures. The decision to transfer to UK has
offered me in my life, opportunity. I think transferring to UK will shape my life from
here on out. I have the goals I want and I think UK is like the springboard to achieving
those. This Transfer Center team hopes to help eve more students reach those goals in
very near future. For UKNow, I'm Amy Jones Timoney.
