Cannes festival in France celebrates excellence in international cinema. On Sunday, May 23,
the 63rd Cannes Film Festival’s culminated in a grand finale with the presentation of
the 12-day event’s most prestigious prize, the Golden Palm, to the Thai movie “Uncle
Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives,” by filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The
festival’s Grand Prix went to “Of Gods and Men,” directed by Olivier Beauvois of
France, and “A Screaming Man,” directed by Chadian Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, was awarded
with the Jury Prize. Other distinguished recipients for this year’s event included Oscar-winning
Juliette Binoche of France who received Best Actress for her role in the Iranian picture
“Certified Copy,” while Best Actor was shared between Spanish Oscar winner Javier
Bardem and Italian actor Elio Germano for their roles in “Biutiful” and “Our Life,”
respectively.
