pretty much one of our most exciting days especially for our octopuses. We are having
our octopus blind date where we have our two octopuses on display, a male and a female
and we introduce them for the first time, hopefully they make a love connection. Its
an animal that lots of people think is very cool and a lot of people don't get to see.
it's not something you're going to see in a tide pool. Our male is Rain and our female
is Squirt. So to be able to get up close and personal with these animals, they're large,
they're really charismatic, and just to get to see something that most people don't get
to see, most divers don't get to see, so this is something that the public, non-divers will
be able to get to see. Here she comes, here comes Squirt, she's doing a little more exploring
of this side of the exhibit, remember Squirt has not been in this cylinder before. Rain
is moving a little more, Squirt is stretching out an arm, reaching toward Rain, it looks
like we have eye contact, we have movement.. We have a sucsessful mating right now it will
last between four to six hours, they've definatly changed colors, did you see the colors change?
Sometimes it's a very quick contact, sometimes they like to stretch it out. At the end of
our octopus week, which starts today, we will actually release them out to the wild, let
them lay their eggs and finish their lifecycle.
