This is one of the former gypsum quarries near Hillsborough in New Brunswick.
Gypsum isn’t mined here anymore and these quarries are abandoned.
If you haven’t seen gypsum bedrock before it's really quite interesting.
Here it is a very bright white.
Gypsum is soft and soluble, so the rainwater has dissolved it into some very
interesting patterns and fractures on the surface of the bedrock here.
The gypsum industry died out here in the early nineteen hundreds.
This quarry now abandoned, but it is still used for mountain bike racing,
so if that’s the way you like to see your bedrock outcrops
this is a good place to do it.
