Indonesian volcano Mount Sinabung continues to pour smoke into the air, with eruptions
prompting the Indonesian government to increase the alert status to its highest level.
As a result of an eruption this morning, 2,000 metre column of volcanic ash and wind has
blown in a south easterly direction to Berastagi. The eruption also caused a 1,500 metre long
hot cloud from the crater.
The volcano, which began erupting again earlier this month, has seen thousands of locals evacuated
into temporary shelters.
We have recommended that the public have limited activities within a five-kilometre-radius,
except for four villages that are located on the outer zone but in front of Sinabung
crater openings, they must leave.
Indonesia, which lies on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire", has more active volcanoes than
any other country.
