No. No I don't. And you need to deal with that @#$%.
I get asked ALL the time if I speak Spanish. And the answer is no. Do I understand Spanish?
Nope. Am I Hispanic? Yes I am. Am I judged? Si`. Latinos look at me like I'm some sort
of traitor. Everybody else treats me like I'm some sort of freak of nature. I was in
a Mexican grocery store one time. Yes, mijo, I like Mexican food. The owner assumed I spoke
Spanish. When I told him I didn't, customer service went down and I was treated pretty
rudely. Now I know for a fact I'm not the only Latino that doesn't speak Spanish. I
got a lot of cousins that don't speak Spanish. I was at an airport in Puerto Rico once and
the lady that handled my reservation looked at me and started speaking Spanish. We started
our conversation in English. What happened? She looked up, she saw me. That's what happened.
As she told me what gate and flight number I had in Spanish, I just looked at her. She
wrote it on my boarding pass in English. Some people think I'm Black. Some think I'm mixed.
I was once told that I was a let down to La Raza. I have a relative that listens to Latino
music because he feels obligated. He doesn't understand a word of what they're singing.
Does any body else see the humor in that? Could I learn Spanish? I could but I've gone
this far and I don't think I have the discipline it would take. Do I speak Spanish? Do you
speak Italian? Do you speak Polish? German? French? Swahili? Russian? Greek? Dutch? Chinese?
Japanese? Korean? Hey Besa mi culo. Leave a comment.
