Each year an organization called All America Selections looks at a variety of new material
that is submitted to them from a variety of breeders across the country.
These new items are sent to trial gardens throughout the US and Canada and looked at for several years alongside comparison varieties.
And the plants that are selected for use under the All America Selection symbol
are usually plant materials that have shown great performance in the garden, vigor, flower production,
and are just basically all around good plants you might want to consider.
An introduction for this year that you might want to take note of is a salvia, 'Summer Jewel Red'.
As you can see here, it's a seed grown variety, gets to be about 20 inches tall,
and is just loaded with these flower spikes, kind of a reddish colored flower.
And what's interesting about it is there is a lot more to come from buds that are produced down in the plant.
So I anticipate this particular plant to be in color all season long.
So again, if you are looking for a really good, dependable salvia, you might want to look for 'Summer Jewel Red'.
Good for full open sun, 20 inches tall, and as you can see, good looking foliage, lots of production of flowers,
and one that I think is a really good addition to the All America Selection Catalogue.
