Maudgalyayana!
This direction.
I have brought some food for you.
We haven't left home to join the Sangha community yet.
We should do lay Buddhists'work
and do everything possible to support Buddha Dharma.
Those who leave home to follow the Buddha
come in ever-increasing numbers.
We must take advantage of building
to have enough places for monks to stay.
Um! All right.
Try to build fast.
Hi!
May I ask you a question?
"Are we near the Buddha's place?"
Go to the end of this street then turn right, my brethens.
You will see a cave where the Buddha preaches.
Hurry up before sunset!
OK. Thank you!
This sum of money
is not enough to buy a bow of oil.
I have just the amount.
What can I do now?
Hello!
Is the sum of money enough?
I know it's not enough to buy oil.
But I have something else
which is much more valuable
OK, I admire you.
Thank you.
People who take refuge to the Buddha
must be merciful and compassionate.
Mercy is a kind of love which brings happiness to others.
Compassion is a kind of love
which relieves human sufferings.
Mercy and compassion is love which needs no conditions
and no repayment nor under any compulsion.
A man of mercy and compassion
surely leads a peaceful and joyful life.
Today,
we're pleased to welcome Sariputra,
Maudgalyayana
and their friends.
The great assembly should remember that
with Sariputra,
Maudgalyayana,
we have more helpful hands.
My brother,
even famous people such as Sariputra,
Maudgalyayana
also follow Gautama.
Gautama!
Let me see if you can preach any longer?
What a gust of wind.
Where does it come from?
I don't know where it is from.
Coming into being,
a man not only faces birth, age, sickness and death
but also suffers numerous miseries resulting from himself.
Due to his wrong realization,
his words and actions
can pain himself and others.
Sufferings from anger, hatred, doubt and dissatisfaction
originate in his delusion.
Therefore,
we cannot escape from the pain by any deva's salvation;
we must contemplate our minds and reasons for the pain.
When understanding its essence,
we are able to overcome the suffering.
Buddha Dharma is so marvelous,
but I should wait for some more time.
If this time is not well,
I'll make self-improvement by myself.
Kasyapa!
Maha Kasyapa!
I have been waiting you for long.
What do you still consider?
Is there anything unintelligible in my Dharma?
The World Honoured One!
I have found my honorable teacher.
Let me take refuge to you,
Bhada! I have found the enlightened one,
However, what can I do now,
if there has not been any clergywoman in the Sangha?
You should wait for more time.
Maha Kasyapa!
Your robe is made from many pieces of cloth,
looking heavy.
You should exchange it for a kasaya from lay Buddhists' offering,
so that you feel easy.
I think there a cold wind here,
please return to the monastery for a rest.
Thanks for your care.
I've lived such a life for ages,
so I get used to it.
Let me do it to observe dhudanga practice
as an example for this generation and following ones.
Diligent practitioners
are needed to maintain proper Dharma in future.
Let's stop at the tea shop ahead.
Yes, sir!
The Buddha will come for preaching tonight.
Please drink water.
I must come for participation.
what I promise to you will be fulfilled on another day.
What does the Buddha preach
to attract you much without missing any lecture?
You have never listened to His preaching,
so you don't understand it.
He knows everything,
teaching and explaining about universe
and human thoroughly and logically.
Listening to Him,
I feel very joyful and peaceful.
My family always attends whenever He comes to preach.
Really?
I'll go with you tonight.
Welcome to your joining.
We should go home early for preparations.
Um!
Look!
Great Brother has supernatural power.
When will I be the same as him?
How strange!
I announced my visit today in advance
but nobody greets me!
The door is not open yet.
The door doesn't lock, sir.
Here it is,
another below...
Is Senior Sudatta at home?
Yes, he is.
I'll call him now.
Be careful
and keep your clean hands.
Be aware of work
and be sincere and happy.
These are offerrings to the World Honoured One and the Sangha,
so we mustn't have any mistake.
Water for cooking must be filtered thrice.
Don't forget.
OK.
Hello!
Who are you about to receive in such a solemn way?
Uh! My family has to prepare everything carefully
to receive the World Honored One tomorrow.
My family has a good fortune
when He comes for lunch and preaching.
Um!
Everywhere on my way,
I heard about the World Honored One
but I've never met him.
The Buddha comes to this region to preach.
He's staying at the nearby forest.
His Dharma and Himself are really subtle and wonderful.
You'll understand it in face of Him.
I can't have enough words to say about His religion.
We only feel sympathetic but unable to discuss.
I think you have a good cause to meet the Buddha,
so you come here in this opportunity.
Therefore, I invite you to stay with us
to welcome the Buddha tomorrow.
Oh! I'd like to meet the World Honored One.
I'm ready.
Tomorrow morning is too long!
It is too dangerous!
I might wait to dawn.
Hundreds of good elephants,
even a hundred thousand good horses;
it's right!
And hundreds of coaches,
even a hundred thousand gentlewomen
wear many pieces of jewelry in their hands.
All don't equal a small part of a step.
Advance!
Come on bravely!
Advance is more useful than return.
Where is sound from?
Or is it in my mind?
Passing over this cemetery,
I can meet the Buddha.
Anathapindika!
Anathapindika!
Are you happy, sir?
Certainly happy at all time!
All kinds of fire are eradicated inside an Arhat;
no longer do desire and love exist;
He is completely fresh and easy;
ends and controls every entanglement of misery and defilement;
an Arhat is always peaceful and quiet
because his mind has attained the state of peace and happiness.
Offerings to the Sangha and the Buddha
create much blessing;
but building a monastery to enable monks to cultivate
their minds gains more blessing.
More blessing than monastic building
is taking refuge to the Triratna.
Much more merit than taking Triratna refuge
is to keep five precepts.
More merit than five-precept keeping
is a little meditation of compassion.
Finally, the best merit of all
is an ever-increasing insight of the universal impermanence.
The World Honored One!
Your Dharma is really profound and subtle,
as a current of fresh water flowing into my mind.
By the way,
I would like to invite you and monks
to Kosala country
for local residents' listening to the enlightened one's wholesome Dharma.
Is there a residential place near Savathi capital
for a dense congregation?
I'll see to it.
Please set your mind at rest,
The World Honored One!
May I ask for a monk
who can be a consultant on building a monastery?
My disciples and I will come to Kosala later at your invitation.
Now I have Sariputra to get there
to save sufferers from miseries now.
Remember that Buddhas only like living in quiet places.
I see, the World Honored One!
This place's quiet and near urban areas.
It's convenient not only for practitioners
but also for lay comers to hear the Buddha's teachings.
It's very good to buy this garden.
Hi, Crown Prince!
Hi, Anathapindika!
Is it a very nice garden?
Which refined amenities are there today
when you spend time here for watching?
The garden is too nice!
I wish it were mine.
Do you want it as a resort?
Jeta's garden is such a great favourite of the senior's,
which does not waste my care.
All right.
It is the garden my king father offered to me.
If you have enough gold to cover all the garden,
I'll give it up to you.
Is there anyplace quiet and charming like this?
An inch of its land equals that of gold.
Dangerous, Crown Prince!
What happens?
Anathapindika has gotten nearly the garden covered with gold.
What?
Why did it happen?
I was just joking yesterday!
We must meet Anathapindika immediately
Let's go.
Hurry up!
Why?
Are you out of gold?
Hello!
I'd like to see you now.
It is easy to cover gold on earth,
but I can't yet know how to calculate the area
of tree feet on earth as our agreement?
Don't do it, sir.
It's my precious garden.
Because I didn't want to sell it,
I said such a joke.
I'm surprised at your covering with gold.
Do you mind my withdrawal of saying?
You set out a condition,
so I satisfy it without a joke.
You should know
that it is a king-to-be's saying together
with two royal witnesses.
Oh!
I priced the garden out of the market
so that you couldn't buy it.
What do I need gold for?
Unexpectedly, you... you...
What a scorn for Anathapindika your saying means!
Even if you asked for two layers of gold to cover,
I accepted.
Is there a need for such a great cost in case
you can buy another garden?
We'll help you have a garden as beautiful as the crown prince's.
I don't buy it for myself,
but it is an important thing I vowed.
Your garden accords my purpose.
So what is your purpose?
I want to buy it to offer to the Buddha
and the Sangha as a monastery.
I can't change my mind.
Please help me perform my vow.
Just one more carriage of gold
is enough to cover the crown prince's garden well.
Anathapindika never tells a lie.
Please go there, the crown prince.
We'll continue our discussion.
Offering to the Buddha?
I often hear my king father's talking about Him
but I haven't seen Him.
Who wins Anathapindika's heart so quickly
is surely an incomparable person.
It is said that he used to be a crown prince.
That's right!
He was once the crown prince from Sakya clan.
A supernatural man dared to give up his throne,
a beautifulwife and a pretty son to become a monk,
determinedly looking for truths to save mankind from misery.
Appreciating Him and His doctrines,
I'm willing to help His Dharma
come everywhere to benefit mankind.
The wealth I offered Him is far less than His merit.
What a noble heart you have!
If I make difficulties for Anathapindika,
I'm selfish.
With the purpose of saving human from suffering,
I suggest that
the garden is Anathapindika's and its plants is Jeta's.
We offer them to the Buddha.
Retain the amount of gold you planned to continue covering.
We'll discuss building of a monastery.
It is Sariputra,
one great disciple of Gotama's.
It is said that he has the best wisdom.
Does he represent Gotama to preach the Dharma?
You come here today earlier than usually.
I'd like to invite you for lunch today.
I bought Crown Prince Jeta's garden.
I'm very happy.
Therefore I come here early to inform you.
But everything exceeds my expectation.
After Crown Prince Jeta heard about the Buddha,
he was determined to offer all trees in the garden
and join in the monastery construction?
That's good!
The first step of Buddhist work often faces difficulties,
usually marahindrances.
It's a trial for lay Buddhists'sincerity and diligence.
OK.
It is said that the quantity of the Sangha goes up to a thousand;
Sariputra, the top disciple,
was invited to come here by Anathapindika.
Anathapindika adores Buddhism.
He dares cover gold to buy Jeta's precious garden for offering.
The crown prince supports him.
He and Anathapindika build a monastery.
OK!
Summon the best masters.
I'll question Sariputra.
Let them be ashamed.
Anathapindika will withdraw his vow.
I'll meet Anathapindika
and inform him of this debate.
Please go!
Go!
They arrive in a large number.
How is the venerable able to respond
to their questions by himself?
Keep your mind calm.
The truth has everlasting logic.
I answer gradually.
It's my honor to welcome gentlemen today,
especially those who have spent many years in self-improvement.
Would you like to instruct us in your convenience?
Hey, Sariputra!
You come from the Noble Brahmins.
Why do you follow Siddhartha Gotama
who belongs to Ksatriya clan,
a lower status than ours?
Um!
Clergyman!
We become monks for enlightenment.
Which way helps us most quickly with peace and contentment
is our selection.
I sympathize with the Buddha.
Buddhism isn't for glory.
We need to release everything,
so social classes no longer have any signification with us.
Sariputra!
You are a Brahmin
but why don't you have any wisdom?
Our religion also lead us
to release by diligently cultivation
for the knowledge of Atman,
then integrate into the Brahman
and we get enlightened.
Is it necessary to change the religion?
It's your mother who doesn't approve it.
Though we both are towards release
and human centralization,
I see that
the Buddha has led us on the shorter path.
It eradicates ***, greed, anger, ignorance to attain happiness
by practice of precepts, meditation, wisdom
to reach nirvana and enlightenment.
Differently, our Brahma follows a very long journey.
The first period is Brahmayana:
the children must learn Veda,
then Adhisthana:
The adults must finish their familial duty before home-leaving.
Bharamyati is to become Bhiksu living in the forest.
It is so long a journey.
You said so without finding out Gotama's shortcoming.
Firstly,
being born in a certain clan is one's blessings,
which is created by oneself.
Secondly,
saying to eradicate ambitions,
but why is it impatient on practice way?
Such impatience without three traditional stages
of cultivation obviously means a clear ambition.
Why did you say to eradicate ambitions?
Please do not misunderstood the Buddha's teachings.
because of His enlightenment of life impermanence,
human life is in a breath,
We exist today
but we're unsure of our tomorrow
to natural disasters, diseases, accidents...,
My World Honoured One often says:
"A day goes by,
human life decreases gradually,
as fish is in dry water,
there is nothing unhappy,
the Way Place should be diligent like
rescuing yourselves from fire on heads."
And the Buddha usually says:
"There are no classes in the same red blood
and in the same salty tears".
There are so many beliefs.
However, it is important to be aware of any way as truths.
As for mother,
I thought, she will be happy someday to know that her son
is on the proper dharma path.
Hell!
You're very articulate, Sariputra.
The highest asceticism
doesn't still reach refutation of tenets - nonego.
Therefore, which one is the proper dharma?
You all take advantage of the middle way
to build monasteries
and enjoy yourself.
Finally, you'll be punished by devas.
Hell, go!
We should discuss to the bitter end.
Any questions else?
Is there anyone to speak?
We'd like to repeat our master's question.
Do you take advantage of the middle way?
Is it right?
Um!
Which one is the proper dharma?
Answer us?
Thanks for your question.
To Duskara-carya,
people usually admire their braveness and extraordinariness.
In pure self-improvement of action, speech, and thought,
Duskara-carya considers bodies as a base for release,
so their bodies are forced to the most painful.
Differently, the Buddha focuses on thought.
There is a need to free from karmic thoughts
because mind starts and controls action and speech.
Right mind will master all true Dharma.
Buddhist has said:
Mind leads Dharma.
Mind is creator.
When they tell or act with unpure thoughts,
miseries will follow.
Like a coach goes after a horse.
Mind leads Dharma.
Mind is creator.
When they tell or act with pure thoughts,
peaceful happiness will follow.
Like figures are present with shade.
My World Honoured One
used to apply this asceticism for six years,
so He experienced it.
He has said that soft wet grass
won't burst to fire despite much rub.
He finally selects the middleway.
If saying that turning the middle way into advantage
is for comfortable life,
you should remember
that the Buddha came from a royal family,
now His king father still expects his return eagerly.
It is a clear answer.
that right
It is too clear to ask more.
One more question, Sir!
What do you think about devas?
Yes, Sir!
I used to be a Brahmin.
I attended the sacrifice ceremonies.
I think that if God:
a nonegoed one, a deity,
a great egotist, a monist,
a universe essence
or perfect incomparable one
needs those bloody bodies as offerings,
needs those extreme sufferings for His joys,
why aren't His descendants living in dirty
and fetid killing and hatred?
If one era succeeds another;
one historical pages ends another;
a piece of glory follows a disgrace;
civilization replaces destruction.
Does it belong to His laws?
His unavoidability?
His supreme freedom?
Brahman is not perfect.
God is not perfect.
It is empty,
deserted and painful here.
His utmost power of compassion and transcendency
needs re-examining.
My venerable!
Where is the World Honoured One at present?
We'd like to follow Him.
To find the Buddha,
please come to Mt.Vulture Peak
or the Bamboo Grove.
Very clear, there is nothing more to be said!
Go! Let's go!
Emergency news!
Your Majesty!
How?
Where does the Buddha, my son, come?
He has reached the East gate.
Prepare the carriage for me to get to the gate!
Yes!
It is many years since
you left without saying a word,
I've missed and expected you so much.
"My son!
Why do you have the heart to hurt royal reputation?
Do you go on bare feet to ask for food in the very city
you used to travel by golden sedan?
Why do you have the heart to shame me like that?"
Please get into the carriage, my crown prince.
We all get into the royal palace.
My king father!
I don't hurt you at all.
I'm no longer a Siddhartha crown prince now.
I don't follow worldly traditions of imperial palace.
I follow the Buddhas'examples,
living up to Dhudanga practice.
Please let the Sangha and me go on foot.
I have seen the World Honoured One from the upstairs.
Yasodhara is surely one of those
who welcomes the crown prince most early,
but I won't come to bow to Him.
If the World Honoured One considers me virtuous.
please come and see me!
Wow! It is so crowded.
Who is the Buddha, Mommy?
The monk in a yellow robe
next to your granddad is the Buddha,
your father.
Why does He have nothing but an old bowl?
The outside is an old bowl
but the inside is a very precious property.
You must remember to ask for your father's patrimony.
Due to desires, ambition and stubbornness in the world,
people defeat one another
and divide into classes of aristocracy and low.
Coming into being,
every man has the same red blood
and the same salty tears.
No one was born with a royal mark on forehead.
Human action, speech and mind results in evil karmas,
making their lives seem to be in the fire house.
Our sufferings are created by ourselves
because of our insistent keeping of desires.
Just undoing this bindingness,
we are able to attain eternal and unchangeable deliverance and peace.
Upali!
Leave at once after cutting hair.
Don't stand here!
Let me listen to the Buddha's lecture.
I've never heard of such things yet.
Hell!
You don't look back on your condition!
Go away right now!
Yes.
We need to set an equal life
for all people so that this world is peaceful,
being the base to lead to pure and quiet Nirvana
with eternal permanence, joy, ego and purity.
I'll repay your merit by such attainment, Dad!
Your doctrines are so practical and wonderful.
No wonder I had high-ranking mandarins to go nine times
and call you back but they all stayed there
and joined in the Sangha nine times.
Right!
You should come to see the princess.
She's glad to know your return.
Finally, you come back today.
She's been around her room since you left.
What bright fame Sakya family gains
with the crown prince's supernaturalwisdom!
On this occasion,
the World Honoured One should visit the princess.
It is amazing that Siddhartha
becomes a superhuman one in such short time!
I must meet Him
to understand the deliverance way more.
It is recognized that
the crown prince is the most excellent anywhere.
He used to be the champion
in any competitions at the royal palace.
Now being a monk,
he also gets the top enlightenment.
Why do you compliment him much?
A lot of his followers also becomes Arahants.
I can do so.
How are you at home, aristocrats?
We are fine, thanks.
We've had many unanswerable questions since you left.
We sometimes felt sad.
All right! I'll visit you later.
Now I must visit Yasodhara and Rahula.
The World Honoured One is about to come,
so the princess ordered us to be in yellow robes today.
Hurry up!
Since you left home,
Yasodhara's been looking forward to you all the time;
hearing you've worn a yellow robe
and eaten one meal a day,
she has done the same;
hearing that you haven't slept in a high bed,
she's lain in a lower place;
knowing that you've given up usage of garlands and perfume,
she has, too.
How deeply she loves you!
I left this palace,
leaving you and Rahula.
It didn't mean that I didn't love both of you.
Please sympathize with me.
My love for you and Rahura,
for the king father, the royal family
and the nation is in large love of all creatures.
Don't hold on to personalization,
temporary kinds of worldly happiness attached to
samsara sufferings through many kalpas.
Realizing sufferings,
we must find a way to escape.
It is the right path in unchangeable permanence.
Mommy!
Come here, Rahula!
Come to greet your father!
Hello, daddy!
Come here, Rahula!
How tall you've grown!
My mother said that
you have precious property.
Please give it to me!
Property!
Be unhurried, I'll give you.
Encourage those in our noble Sakya clan
who want to leave home
and become the clown prince's disciples!
That's a good idea!
So, tomorrow I'll shave my hair and beard,
The clown prince
has the most respectable position in our Sakya clan, after you.
Do you want to do so?
Now, I'll go to every family
and appeal to their every member
to join in the Sangha and become the Buddha's disciples.
Due to desires, ambition and stubbornness in the world,
people defeat one another and divide into classes of aristocracy and low.
Coming into being,
every man has the same red blood
and the same salty tears.
No one was born with a royal mark on forehead.
The Buddha's advice is wonderful.
Right! Becoming His disciple,
I can hear His teachings every day.
You don't look back on your condition!
Go away right now!
Will He accept me with my low condition as His disciple.
Why was I born in this condition?
Why?
Why are you so late, Upali?
You called me here, sir.
I'm sorry for being late!
Shave my hair and beard!
What?
Besides, do so with them!
What? Shave all of you?
Yes, all of us!
What's the matter with all, sir?
Do you know that
we're going to be the Buddha's disciples today?
His group stayed at a suburban forest last night,
so we decide to go there today.
We must be quick or it'll be dark.
Yes, I see, Sir!
Sir Rahah...
What else do you want?
Let me go with you.
I'd like to be your slave to valet you!
My hope is just chances to hear Buddha Dharma.
With your condition?
Look at us, we're from the noble Sakya.
You don't really recognize your condition.
Uh!
Due to desires, ambition and stubbornness in the world,
people defeat one another
and divide into classes of aristocracy and low.
Coming into being, every man has the same red blood
and the same salty tears.
No one was born with a royal mark on forehead.
Really, the Buddha doesn't have discrimination of social classes.
Why don't I go and meet himdirectly.
I must reach there before them!
The World Honoured One!
Do you want to become a monk?
Yes,
I do...but...my condition.
Let me become a monk!
I see.
Don't be afraid.
There is no class discrimination here.
Through Upali's manner,
The spirit of seeking truths is seen.
Such a person
is very worth joining in our Sangha!
Yes.
Thanks, the World Honoured One!
Hey! Sariputra!
I give you this acasayaas -the symbol of the Sangha.
Don't forget this ethusiasm
and learn well from it.
Now, it's time to salute your brethens.
Yes.
Crown Prince!
I took many young men here.
Look at them!
Your reputation will be expanded much more.
This place is wild and spare.
I'll have trees cut down
and a monastery built immediately.
Maggaliputra Tissa!
Do you call me this?
It is OKto call me so
because I'm your disciple now.
Your clothes is so luxurious for Buddhist practitioners.
Please wear the clothes beside me!
This pair of clothes?
Can't you offer me something better?
Me, too...
Me, too...
Me, too...
Now, you must follow the initiation rules.
One by one comes to salute your brethens.
Upali!
I am surpised that you come before me.
What?
Upali!
Are you Upali?
What do you come here for?
Upali has become my disciple before you.
But he is from the abject Sudra while
we're from the noble Sakya.
How can we bow to this kind of persons?
Hell!
No way!
A bow is not enough.
You must kneel to him as you did to the others.
Never!
You had better kill me than asking me to do that!
Why?
The differences between the noble condition and the abject one
are created by the haughty.
We are not of noble birth nor mean one,
but our behaviors make it.
Bow to salute Upali!
But he is a slave.
Aren't slaves human?
I...!
Right!
A slave is a human
but he is a slave..!
Aren't you the slave of defilement and haughtiness now?
That saying has something logical...
but...just due to you, Upali!
Without you,
I don't lose face here.
I don't think of coming here for saluting a slave!
That is enough,
the World Honoured One!
I shouldn't come here...
I am sorry!
Upali!
You aren't wrong.
Wrongness is from Sakya ones;
wrongness is due to their haughtiness.
Understanding your own mistakes,
you both didn't change your behaviors.
It's the haughtiness which caused discrimination.
It also both educates and troubles you.
I ... I ... so... so ...!
All members of the Sakya family!
Please throw away your arrogance and salute Upali!
Such my anger and grief aren't from Upali
but from my haughtiness.
This is not what I say
but fromevery dharma.
It's wonderful and subtle.
Wow! It turns out such a thing!
If I give up my arrogance,
my suffering and defilement will disappear.
That's so!
The World Honored One!
You help me eradicate my arrogance, Upali.
Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Upali! I'll salute you,
but I don't forget you're a slave.
Daddy!
Rahula!
Where are you from?
I come here to seek you.
Where is my inheritant, Daddy?
Would you like to have my property?
Be unhurried and I'll give you!
Now, you must come back to the royal palace.
Your absence will make others anxious.
Yes!
Daddy...!
Does Rahula come with you?
Yes!
Is it so far to walk here?
Please bring me a wash basin
and a clean towel!
Yes!
This is Sariputra.
Today you stay with him here!
Yes, I know!
Honorable queen and princess!
I deserve death with my guilt.
Guards said the royal aristocrat
has gone with the Buddha.
Get a carriage prepared!
The Princess and I will come to the monastery!
Yes.
Wow! Rahula is here, isn't he?
Who led Rahula here?
My father led me here.
I come to ask for my property!
Alas! Brother Upali is here, too.
How happy it is!
Surely, I stay here.
Would you like to leave home
when liking to stay here?
Upali can do it, so can I.
My father and my uncles are here.
I also have Master Sariputra.
It's interesting.
Daddy!
Where is my property?
Your property?
Be unhurried and I'll give you.
At first,
I give you three robes and a bowl.
Do you want to resemble Anan,
Anurhuda
and Upali?
Do you want to stay here,
in this forest as everyone else?
Yes, I agree!
Ah!
Where is Sariputra, monks?
Do you call me the World Honored One?
Holda home-leavingrites for Rahula
and teach him to study precepts together with these people!
I'll do as your order, the World Honored One.
Come here, Rahula and salute your brethens.
Yes!
Here comes His Majesty!
Does Mommy see my beautiful Kasaya?
This is only a part of my inheritance daddy offers to me.
I'll stay here with daddy.
When the Crown Prince left home,
I was very disappointed,
then Anan
and now my grandson.
How sad I am- an unenlightened person can feel!
Tathagata knows that everyone will come here,
but this is Rahula's hetupratyaya.
Tathagata can't decline it.
When he was born,
I named him
'SHOULDN'T BE SO'
because giving birth to a person means suffering.
Human life faces suffering,
attainment, loss, success, failure,
greed, anger, and ignorance;
All harm his body and soul.
Though man's largest debt is sentiment difficult to give up,
let's overcome it bravely.
Understanding enlightenment truths leads
to freedom and ease.
Man's largest property is real wisdom.
How much you all love Rahula,
he'll be protected and cared for just in a few decades.
Let him choose the best path to go!
It's the path without samsara
nor rebirth, age, sickness, death.
It is man's highest happiness
to refuge peacefully in the right path.
I know everyone has their own choice.
Formerly, I chose a path for the crown prince.
However, he chose himself a happier path.
He is admired.
But when leaving home,
the crown prince was a brave and strong youth
while Rahula is too young now.
The sooner he lives in my proper Dharma,
the better his life gets.
It's more difficult to practice Dharma
if life defilement is deep-rooted.
Therefore, all should support Rahula on his Buddhist way.
Come here,
Rahula, my grandson!
This place is well.
My father,
Anan,
Anurhuha,
Sariputra.
and many more ones stay here.
Grandpa! Let me stay here.
Grandmom! Let me stay here, please!
Come to ask for daddy's legacy, Mommy!
Since you left home,
I've been sad,
waiting you day after day
and expecting your attainment of perfect enlightenment one day.
Now, you've achieved it.
I'm so happy
If Rahula has a condition with Buddhism,
this is also my wish,
Everything has been done.
I'd like to ask the Buddha one thing:
From now on,
when any child wants to leave home,
they must get parental approval.
Sariputra!
I make one more precept
that any child must have parental permission
before his home-leaving celebration.
