Acacia Lodge in New Moston Manchester, is situated just off the A663 on Broadway and
is a highly respected provider of care services to the elderly. The home opened in February
2010 and offers residential and dementia care services in a thriving community of care.
We provide quality care for the elderly, we have some people with dementia but other people
have just got physical disabilities. The standard is of a five star hotel and we can accommodate
60 clients, every room is en-suite and the premier room is very spacious.
Do you enjoy your jobs here?
Love it
Why
Just everyone is lovely to work with and we have been together from day one, from the
home opening me and Anne Marie, we just get on really well.
I have been here 19 months now and I have really enjoyed work here, talking to the residents
and enjoying meeting people. Every day is different because I am doing different meals.
Do you get frozen food in?
We don’t get frozen food, it is all fresh food, fresh vegetables, fresh meat, fresh
fruit, and everything is all fresh that is brought into here. It is delivered every morning,
milk, everything. The only stuff that comes in is like dried produce such as porridge
oats, things like that. No, we don’t do frozen food, I’m sorry!
Remember this, there are twenty odd people here, each with their own likes and dislikes
and they try to accommodate you. If there is something you don’t like, if you see
the chef and say ‘I don’t like that, do you think you can do something for me, if
he can do it, he’ll do it. What more could you want.
We wold like to present this cheque to you on behalf of Acacia Lodge
Thank you very much indeed, on behalf of guide dogs for the blind, we very much appreciate
the effort that has been made.
All our residents are able to enjoy and benefit from a varied programme of recreational and
leisure based activities and events.
We had a summer fair didn’t we and we raised £500 and we had a residents activities meeting,
which we have once a month, and we had two charities in mind, one was Hope For Heroes
and the other was Guide Dogs For the Blind and I think the thought of puppies opened
everyone’s eyes and we decided that we would give the cheque to Guide Dogs For the Blind.
Activities is very, very important for the elderly, it keeps them mentally stimulated.
Our activities programme is tailor made to what our resident’s request. We have a residents
committee and the family get involved and we ask them to plan their own activities for
the month. We like to see happy faces, getting everybody active, joining in in all the activities.
And it just really rewarding.
These are devised daily by our full time recreational co-ordinators who will help you settle quickly
into home life through all the shared activities that we all enjoy.
When we start doing singing and you see their face light up and you see they really enjoy
it they take part in it which is great news you know. So it does lift you, it’s brilliant.
They have people come in and performing different things, singing their songs and singers
Do you enjoy it?
Yes I do
Our rooms and the hotel support you can enjoy are of a hotel standard and you are free to
personalise your rooms with your own mementoes’ and keepsakes. Your bedroom is your own space,
just tell us what you like and we’ll make sure it stays that way.
We are very fortunate to have a south facing garden, so we get a lot of sun in the garden
and yes, we have the pleasure of the aviary and the residents come and go freely.
When the weather is fine, we take time out to enjoy our enclosed garden and the seating
areas, where the well-stocked garden, raised flower beds, paths, patios and water feature
help make our summer evening that bit extra special. We even have our very own aviary
to keep our residents entertained. The residents often take tea and cake in the garden when
the weather is fine.
We planted some of the plants ourselves in the plants pots out the back.
And how often do you get to go outside?
Oh, as often as we want as long as the weather is all right.
Our lounges are light and airy in their feel. Residents come here to relax and enjoy the
company of others and are free to do so as they please. Many of our residents have made
new friends at Acacia Lodge and really enjoy the companionship that our small community
affords. We feel that Acacia Lodge offers a vibrant lifestyle opportunity for our residents,
a comfortable and secure elder care community that is a positive lifestyle choice, where
everything we do is guided by our resident’s wellbeing and quality of living.
