If I want to get a deaf person’s attention, obviously I can’t shout to call them or
to get their attention so you need to tap them on the shoulder or wave or tap their
arm. Deaf people, we’re quite tactile so we don’t mind touching to get attention.
And sometimes hearing people are a little bit nervous about touching deaf people you
know to get their attention. But we’re fine if you tap us on the shoulder or tap us on
the arm that’s bsolutely fine, that’s part of our communication system. But obviously
don’t touch us you know on our lower body or our arms or our bum or anything like that
you know, just the shoulder or lower arms are appropriate places.
And obviously don’t hit somebody on the head to get their attention!
