As the holidays approach and 2011 comes to an end, I appreciate the opportunities to
honor our troops, visit with teachers and students, and talk about jobs in Sequatchie
County.
At the Tennessee National Guard Hall of Flags…General Max Haston…several Tennessee soldiers and
I celebrated 375 years of the National Guard.
During the event, we also launched the “Guard your Buddy” smart app… which allows soldiers
to access around the clock suicide prevention counseling at the touch of a button.
Anyone want to tell me what they learned in math today? We learned how to do like pluses.
Pluses? Is it our pluses or minuses that are easier? Probably plus, and we did a math game.
You did a math game? Alright, I’ll let you all go back to this. Good to see you.
This past year, I had the privilege of visiting more than 30 schools all across the state.
It was great to finish the year with teachers and students at North Hamilton Elementary
School in the Sale Creek Community and at the L & N Stem Academy in Knoxville.
We end the year with an exciting announcement about a new company who will call Tennessee
home.
Mann+Hummel will invest nearly 15 million dollars over three years in Tennessee and
will bring 150 jobs to Dunlap and Sequatchie county by the end of 2013.
To me this is another sign that Tennessee really is a national star in automotive and
related manufacturing.
These kinds of projects are important as we work to make Tennessee the number one state
in the Southeast for high quality jobs.
As we look ahead to 2012, my administration will continue to focus on making state government
more customer-friendly, efficient and effective. We’ll also continue to build upon our strong
momentum in improving education, and we’ll do our part to encourage and facilitate job
growth in Tennessee.
We look forward to keeping you up to date on our efforts and progress in the new year.
