collaboration is with us he is the former secretary of labor the united
states of america and repair welcome back doctor right
yaar and i should mention your book after denied but just shouldn't
shouldn't just mention that i mean i thought i should
i want a highly recommend aftershock the next america and that economy in
america's future
crawl
how is it
the democrats have become so afraid that she would you write about this in your
article about how
people have come to believe that
when we talk about raising taxes which are raising taxes on the guys making
twenty
styles but she actually insure pinching so as of in the woods of vermont
at what is actually true lies however have been perpetrated mostly by
republicans and a vast american working and middle class
who have been told it so often though the implies that they accept them for
the first i referred to before trickle-down economics if you give tax
breaks to people at the top everybody will benefit because those people at the
top will use those tax breaks to work harder and create more newfangled
products and new jobs and new industry and well in a global economy it doesn't
work like that people at the top take their extra savings and they invest
anywhere around the world where they can get the highest return nothing has
trickle-down
at the second why is that any average working person always so or nor can or
inevitably must become a millionaire
and so if you start taxing the billionaires
eventually you're going to start taxing and the average working person who
becomes a millionaire
well that's just simply alive because it doesn't happen in fact it's harder and
harder
for average working people to work their way up to the lofty heights
being governing a million dollars a year and those people who were actually
earnings
more than a million dollars a year
they now have more political power than ever before in terms of entrenching
their own political interests
xx xx
well there's a cowboy stomach right there
we really do go back to the fifties and sixties when we have an economy
where there was widely shared prosperity
and people who were working americans average and below
dot larger share of the gains from growth
or
we have a very reactionary politics nativist
jingoistic anti-immigrant
commerical divided between uh... a working people and union working people
or state employees seven federal employees and people who were not
government employees at working people who don't like moslems working people in
america who don't trust foreigners
people who don't like blacks and the pork another words there were some ever
since i a snooze well unfortunately i a lot of ed anger that's already out there
a lot of people
an average working people every every promise tenable reasons because they're
which is not about for years
they have trouble paying their mortgages uh... they feel like the game is rigged
and to some extent it is
they look at the bailout of wall street's and they are apoplectic
and that anger finds its way either through the politics of resentment an ad
toward everybody sort of uh...
and all sorts of scapegoats including immigrants and others
who are not really responsible for all of this but who are convenient
scapegoats for that kind of political outlet you mention fox news
at yes
elsewhere on the talk radio rush limbaugh and others as you hear it over
and over and over sir and that kind of ugly politics and reactionary politics
that is what we have in store if we don't reform
pandas
data current pointed out
eighteen one eighteen declining when he wrote on labor and
on profits
ultimately assembled into a book
the victorian era
understand what preceded it
for some time
with maximum wage laws
the minimum wage laws
maintain a permanent under class the working poor
a small middle-class of basically entrepreneurs which is what scrooge
marley warren
tail and dickens news well as fathers tried that debtor's prison
and a very small ruling elite made up of a political ruling elite the pretends
they're in charge an economic ruling elite the really tells them what to do
that's a very very very stable system
that lasted
centuries
benny real significant change in europe
do you think that that might be the end the game that these guys are working and
that the that the billionaires the cobra the types high in the united states are
working towards enhances turn america into dickens england
at well it is certainly prove it
nothing changes we are moving back to the area of the robber barons the
eighteen eighties
when that not only were the rich super-rich not only was the middle class
and the working class
consigned to lower and lower wages at a lot of poverty
but you have the extraordinary political power to the extent that the lackey is
of the robber barons were putting abbas acts of money on the desks of have
legislatures three quarts and they bought out everybody i mean any e_s_t_
not only do we have to be
very aware of the fact that wealth and income are now more concentrated
than they've been any eighty years of america
but we also have to understand
that with that wealth and income concentrated at the top comes political
power and unless we do something about getting money out of politics
and constraining
that political power we're going to have clarence thomas and antonin scalia and
others
the essentially agents of the republican
rights and the very rich and continue to pump out decisions like
that grotesque decision citizens united against the federal election commission
that says basically corporations or people
and of the very rich ken through corporations contribute unlimited
amounts of money into american politics
the end of our democracy yeah all bases silly rosie
of because wrote the fourteenth amendment with word naturally for the
word person i mean it's it's seven corporation people it's it's uh... it's
absurd yeah about it but i think it's very yeah passed but probably for the
democrats have got to wake up to this i could get more aggressive and robert a
very quickly do you think democrats who are willing to unit is this is
legislation
let's put it this way up working out forty eight thirty thursday meeting that
i can do to help for our trip million viewers and listeners can do to help
please let us know herbert
