Hey guys, Ryan here! Today, I'm going to film a short tutorial on how I find the cheapest
flights using Kayaks price alert feature. This little travel hacking tip of mine that
I'm about to share with you could possibly save you a couple hundred dollars if your
dates are flexible enough. As always, remember that flexibility in dates, times and stopovers
is really key when finding the cheapest flights online.
So let's start off by going to kayak.com. Okay, I'm already here. You're going to click
on the login button which is going to be here. I'm already logged in so it just says my account.
Once you're all logged in, we're going to hit the more button. Then we're going to hit
price alerts.
Now that we're here, you can see I have a few different price alerts already setup.
One is JFK to Bangkok and my maximum price I want to pay is one thousand. I have it set
to weekly so that Kayak sends me a weekly roundup email saying hey ryan, here's the
flights that are under a thousand dollars from JFK to Bangkok. I have Boston to Bangkok
as well for up to a thousand. Cancun to Boston for up to three seventy five, and so on.
What I'm going to do is show you how to add your own flight price alert. All you have
to do is start by clicking add a flight price alert. Now, as you can see, we're on the exact
dates tab. The exact dates tab is for people that don't have flexibility, right. They just
have vacation time, it is what it is. It's march twelfth to the nineteenth, let's just
say. So, let's do Boston, Las Vegas. Let's just say we want to go to Vegas. Roundtrip
is fine. Departure date march twelfth, return march nineteenth. We'll set the rate to four
hundred fifty dollars which is the max price I want to pay for the ticket. Any stops or
nonstop, any stops is fine. One traveler, economy and send as email. You can also send
as iPhone notification but I usually send as email. Then, the send frequency is either
weekly or daily. Weekly will give you a weekly round up and daily will be a daily email as
long as the flight prices are lower than your maximum price here so if you set your price
low enough that you know it's reasonable, you know that average flights usually go for
on this route, then it's okay. But, if you set your price really high and all the flights
are lower than this number, then you're going to get a daily email and I don't like to get
emails every single day, I don't know about you. Let's go ahead and click save.
So, now we are all set. Basically, right here we have Boston to Las Vegas on Wednesday March
12th to the 19th and I'm willing to spend up to four hundred fifty dollars. Anytime
it's less than four hundred fifty dollars, kayak.com is going to send me an email saying
hey ryan, waving flags at me saying hey, its under four fifty, book your ticket.
Now, if you're really flexible and that's where the real savings are, you can go back
up to add a flight price alert and we're going to do flexible. Then we're going to do Cancun
to Boston and leaving anytime. You can choose leaving anytime this year if you're really
flexible like me, or you can do upcoming weekends, or you can choose a month like anytime in
June, August, September and so on. I'm going to do anytime. Then we'll put in three hundred
seventy five dollars, which is a really good deal because generally speaking flights from
Boston to Cancun or vice versa usually run from three hundred and fifty to four hundred
dollars at the lowest. So, three seventy five is pretty good. I won't be getting emails
all the time, but I'll be getting the best deals in my email. Any stops is fine with
me, send as email. I'll do daily and then we'll hit save.
So, as you can see I have Cancun to Boston for up to three hundred and seventy five dollars
and anytime that fare goes under that, I'm going to receive a daily email. Awesome.
One quick thing to show you here. This is your price alert dashboard. You can come in
and change, pause and even delete your price alerts as well. If I wanted to go to change,
I can edit this price alert and I actually can see a sample price alert. So, I'm going
to show you what it looks like. When you get an alert in your email, it's going to look
like this. It's going to say, here are your requested alerts. It's going to show your
departure and arrival city, and it's going to give you the breakdown of each flight.
Anyway, that's just a sample.
Yeah, so you can come back in and edit this if you like. If not, just hit save. All set.
There you go, that's my little travel hacking tip on how to find the cheapest flights. Hopefully
you'll find this helpful.
