At least four people were killed when a car bomb exploded in the middle of this busy street
in Beirut.
The force of the blast destroyed other cars nearby, and ripped the fronts off surrounding
buildings.
Lebanese officials say a further 46 people were seriously injured.
I was standing in front of Al-Jawad's restaurant when the explosion happened. Was it a car,
a suicide bomber? I don't know. The explosion pushed me around 50 meters.
The explosion happened during the evening rush hour, when the streets were packed with
people leaving work and heading home for the day.
Some people carrying rifles fired them into the air to try to clear the crowds, fearing
a second bomb might go off.
It comes less than a week after another car bomb attack in the city, which killed former
finance minister Mohammed Chatah.
Nobody has yet claimed responsibility for the blast - the latest in a series of fatal
attacks across the region.
