Hello and welcome to Edexcel GCSE Maths ActiveCourse - a new online homework resource that provides
a motivating and supportive environment where your students can improve their learning.
This ActiveCourse offers a new way of delivering online student learning by providing a unique
approach to self-study that really encourages progression.
Students can access exercises, questions and learning aids specifically written for their
Edexcel GCSE Maths ActiveCourse, by simply logging into the ActiveLearn website.
To make it easy for students to access each of the learning opportunities, their Library
page provides direct links to assignments set by their teacher, independent practice
opportunities via the chapters from their course, and access to a digital version of
the Pearson’s Edexcel GCSE Maths student book on screen. This is known as an ActiveBook
and is available to buy separately or together with their Courses.
To carry out an assignment set by their teacher, students simply click on the assignment button
in the menu bar and find their assignment.
These Exercises encourage students to ‘learn by doing’, by working through problems or
tasks, which include targeted feedback that support learning.
Students can also access a range of additional resources to support their understanding and
learning: such as Worked example videos, Help me solve this guidance and ActiveBook for
this course.
There are hundreds of Worked example videos throughout the course to help with difficult
topics or common misconceptions. These popular videos are “over the shoulder” quick run-throughs
of similar questions to the ActiveCourse activities - walking students through their workings.
There are also Help me solve this guidance which breaks down similar questions into multiple
steps with specific feedback to help students who need additional guidance.
The ActiveBook gives access to Edexcel GCSE Maths course material. It is accessible via
both the ActiveLearn exercises and the student homepage to help students with independent
practice and revision. Students can also access the Active Course exercises directly from
the pages in the ActiveBook, enabling them to practise and apply their knowledge as they
work through the book.
Direct feedback on specific parts of a question advise the students why their answer was correct
or guides them if they were wrong, helping them to progress and move on.
These exercises are automatically marked, giving students instant results and feedback,
helping them identify areas of strength and also where they need to improve.
Students can also show their workings in the Working area which teachers will have access
to once the assignment is handed in – a great way to pinpoint problem areas in getting
to the answer.
Each activity has multiple sets of questions to provide students with lots of practice
if needed.
Everything needed to answer a question is provided in the Tools area – a handy scientific
or basic calculator; ruler, protractor and drawing tools.
ActiveLearn provides a range of tailored exercises for each chapter of the Pearson student book
or topic studied. As well as completing assignments set by their teacher, students can also access
these exercises for independent practice by simply navigating to the appropriate chapter
or topic and selecting the type of question they would like to practice
This provides a safe and focused environment where students can learn at their own pace,
whilst embracing the support that Edexcel GCSE Maths Active Course provides to help
them progress.
The student homepage provides students with a personalised dashboard, which allows them
to quickly navigate the resources.
They can also view their target grade and monitor changes in this as their learning
develops.
To help motivate students and build confidence, they are rewarded for their achievements and
can track their progress via the achievements panel.
A further feature of the homepage is the Genius panel, where activities are recommended to
the student based on their previous work - Making sure students always have a suggested starting
point to help them carry out activities independently.
The Active Course provides fantastic features for teachers too:
You can quickly and easily set assignments using the simple drop down facilities on the
assignments screen. You can track students’ performance against
their target grade with a traffic light system that helps you keep track of their development
as they tackle assignments and practice. You can monitor your students’ performance
and keep track of their progress with easy to use reporting tools. Four types of report
are provided, allowing you to see how a group of students are performing and also enabling
you to delve deeper and truly identify areas of strength and weakness for a particular
student. This ActiveCourse for Edexcel GCSE Maths offers
