Hello, I'm Randall Stout, WA chapter chair of the Financial Planning Association and
I'm a proud Curtin University graduate, this is where I work.
I'm a financial planner, that’s someone who helps people make smart decisions about
their money. The thing I like about my profession is that I get to meet a diverse range of people
and make a difference in their lives. As you can understand, money is not everything, but
for most families, it’s a big stress in their lives.
Financial planning is not just about money, it's about life - we provide clarity, insight
and work in close partnership with our clients.
I studied accounting at Curtin and became a Certified Practising Accountant. Later I
transitioned to be Certified Financial Planner. This has given me the best of both professions.
I wish they had the double major in Accounting and Financial planning that is now available.
I encourage everyone aspiring to be in financial services to consider pursuing both qualifications.
It has certainly given me the edge to be excellent in my job.
The Financial Planning Association values high educational standards for those in the
financial planning profession.
Hi, I’m Ashley, a partner at HPH Solutions and a Curtin University Master graduate in
Financial Planning. I started out in strategic planning and business
analysis as a career but found that I was never really connecting to the work.
I decided to go back to university to pursue additional studies in financial planning as
a career change. Curtin’s Master Financial Planning course was the obvious choice for
me; being on the FPA's approve list of accredited universities, it gave me an accelerated pathway
to attaining the Certified Financial Planner, a global certification of professionalism,
integrity and high education standards. Sitting here today, I can tell you that this
was a life defining moment, both professionally and personally. I am working in a profession
that provides people with confidence in their financial decision making, focusing on what
is most important to them. Along with meeting clients, my role also requires
me to be a mentor to the junior staff and provide training and support to the rest of
the team members. When you join a financial planning company, you are part of a family.
We don't just build bridges into our clients' lives, we connect with our team members as well.
Hi, I'm Rachael, a paraplanner at HPH and I am a recent Curtin University graduate.
I really enjoy my work and look forward to a long and exciting career in financial planning.
As a paraplanner, I am responsible for formulating solutions, exploring options and investigating
various strategies for the clients. I love working for HPH and the opportunity
and support that has been given to me. One of the benefits of studying at Curtin
is that the lecturers are well connected in the industry. I got into this role during
my studies, through an event organised by the lecturer. The best thing was that HPH
paid for my remaining units while I gained experience working for them part-time.
I have to admit that the financial planning course at Curtin is tough, but I'm glad it
provided me with a good foundation to enable me to hit the ground running.
Studying financial planning was the best decision and I am certainly in one of the most rewarding
and dynamic professions.
