So what can we learn from the speaking style of Warren Buffet? For starters let's ask ourselves,
who is he? Well, he's a finance guy. He's a CEO of a huge conglomerate. Now, typically
we think of CEOs as giving finance speeches. And what's the first thing people do when
they're giving a so-called financial presentation? They're boring and they do a data dump and
all they do is stare at numbers.
That's not what Warren Buffet does. He realizes every single time he communicates it's an
opportunity to have someone understand his company, understand him, and to do it in a
memorable way. So anytime Warren Buffet speaks he uses conversational language. He's not
using all this "going forward", "Q4", all this financial jargon. He uses simple, everyday
language.
He doesn't talk about commodities. He talks about Coca-Cola, Dairy Queen ice cream, cherry
cola. He talks about very specific examples you can visualize. And he's not afraid to
bring in personal experience to talk about emotion. People ask him if he's going to retire.
He says, "Hey. I'm like the teenage girl waiting for the phone to ring. I can't wait to get
up in the morning and go to work. I'm tap-dancing my way to work." You can visualize everything
he says. You can feel the emotion. You can see it. And that's why Warren Buffet is not
only one of the best investors in the entire world, he's one of the best communicators
as well.
