Hi this is John Stewart and this is how to collect the shingles, the pine straw or outer
covering of your shelter for a lean to shelter. There are many different things you can use,
just depends on the area that you're in. Once you've built your shelter, the support sticks,
you're going to find your covering, okay. This can range from pine straw, palm tree
leaves, banana tree leaves, anything that's big and that's going to cover a lot of area,
okay. If you have pine straw you want to put it on there real, real thick, it's going to
give you real good insulation, and also you want to put it on there thick because it's
going to be the one that's the least water repellent of the three. Banana leaves they're
really big, you can these layer lay a bunch them on there layered up, you don't have to
use quite as much, okay. These last a long time, they're really thick, really sturdy
leaves, you can place them on the outer edge of it and it will work well. The water will
run right off it. Other things you can use are of course your palm tree leaves. Cut the
whole leaf down, the branch and everything, lay them on there. You can tie the longer
leaves together to where they stay together. These are just three of the few things you
can use for your outer walls or shingles of your lean to shelter.
