Having the opportunity to help patients in multiple different ways is something that
gets me going in the morning. I decided pretty early that I wanted to be a doctor. You have
this incredible amount of science involved in medicine. You have the human body that
is so complex, and there's so much science involved there that stems from chemistry and
biology - all these subjects in high school that I found that I enjoyed and was good at.
Combining that with a field that has such a personal interaction to it - almost unlike
any other field.
Patients have told me that sometimes they don't feel that they're being heard or given
a chance to really express what's bothering them. Before they arrive I like to first review
their chart and find out what testing has been done beforehand. And when I go into the
room to meet them for the first time, I like to first let them start by telling me why
they're in the office. I think that by allowing them to initially start by first expressing
what's troubling them and their assessment or opinion on what's been done for them thus
far, gives you a better understanding of what they're going through.
The Community Physician Network is really unique and is good for patient care because
of the fact that we have all of these specialists under one umbrella that can easily communicate
with each other with a single, cohesive medical record system, is great for patient care.
It facilitates and speeds up their care and that's something I think Community has done
an exceptional job with and patients seem to be very happy with that.
I'm married. I met my wife when I was an intern in 2006. Her name is Nirali and we have one
son. He's turning two in a couple months. We actually have another son on the way. He's
due at the end of May. We are really excited about that. We love to travel. We both love
sports - I more so than her. Aside from that, just spending time with my family and my kids
is something I really enjoy.
My name is Ninad Shah. I'm a gastroenterologist and I joined the Community system in 2011.
