With the recent escape plan nerf
a lot of roaming soldiers are starting to look at other options
The main competitors here are the market gardener and the pain train
Many people can already vouch for the pain train since many demos already use
it themselves
However, I don't think many people realize the consequences of the increased bullet
damage vulnerability
Roamers are usually fighting away from the Medic and rely on health packs
for survivability. The pain train forces you to play a more passive role in order
to stay alive in fights
On the other hand, the market gardener is considered by many a high-risk
high-reward weapon
that shouldn't be used but consider this:
when you have the market gardener equipped, you don't take mini-crits when
it's equipped,
and you don't take bullet damage vulnerability. So in a way,
the market gardener is a weapon that has no downsides
and in fact is a straight upgrade from the stock shovel.
Personally, I prefer the market gardener
seeing as your team will have two scouts who can cap twice as fast
I don't find the pain train that rewarding especially since you take
increase bullet damage. The market gardener is free from downsides and it
gives me a chance to make big plays.
Also consider the quick fix, since its buff,
a lot of medics have started using it and it's almost impossible to take down unless
you have half your team focusing a single player.
With the market gardener, you can get a one shot kill on the medic
and not to worry about spamming at a single player. A pain train soldier
capping allows for scouts to push-up,
but you lose the power of rockets and splash damage. This can be good for high-level
teams where scouts can be game-changers,
personally I like the assurance a roamer gives to push while scouts cap.
